Squeaky rear....let's try this, second time around.

So, brought my car (2003 C240 4matic) in last Friday to get fixed. I originally heard from my work (Toyota dealership) that from the sounds, they thought it was the rear sway bar bushings. I brought it into Mercedes service, told them that's what was said. I get a call after the diagnosis, he said the rear springs need to be replaced. (The only "symptoms" were loud rubber sounding squeaks from the rear on turn and bumps) I got my car back today because the parts had to be ordered. After about 30 minutes of highway driving home, I drove on the back roads to get to my house and it started up again!!!!!! What is this?! I'm really starting to think that my springs were okay! The rear wasn't sagging or anything...
I'm not going to want to pay for anything else to get fixed if they should've fixed it right the first time!!

Thanks...input plz

hmm. if it IS the springs, then you'll feel extra bump or that Lincoln Towncar feeling.

If it is the sway bar bushings, its more of a CLUNK kinda noise.

Hmmff... It's like really loud rubber squeaking. That's the only "symptom" I can really point out. Maybe it feels a bit like I'm swaying when going over bumps/turns. Is that what you call the towncar feel?! hahah. But maybe I only notice the light "sway" because there's a loud squeak along with it! The squeak is the only thing that really stands out. I guess If it really was the springs...I should notice a difference...but it's exactly the same.

i myself have the same problem, a loud erratic squeaking. but i replaced my springs and stuff, so it must be the sway bushings

good luck!

get under the car and spray the bushings with silicone spray. If the noise goes away, then replace the bushings.

I just had the same problem with my '05... It turned out to be the bushings on the drivers side rear had gone out. I would only hear it on bigger bumps or with the car rocked a bit more than usual going around corners and things. I could also get it from pushing up and down on the trunk. It was crazy annoying and I was happy to get rid of it. I live in Finland and it cost me 180€ to fix.

Try spraying some silicone lubricant on the sway bar bracket bushings then driving around. If the sound doesnt go away, try spraying the sway bar bushings on the end links. This is what I did w/ my car and I found that the squeaking came from the end link bushings. I replaced both w/ oem parts and the squeaking went away.

New springs? Oh thats a new one.
I'd say run run away!

What could possibly go WRONG with a set of coiled up thick wires that could have ANYTHING to do with a squeaky rear?

Where you been Lyz? You could have saved a coupla bucks by letting us have a think on it.

As Tru and others said, I would have the bushings sprayed heavily with silicon spray. My bet is that the sound goes away.

Does anyone know the Factory part numbers for the bushings? I have this on my C320 Coupe and I may as well change the bushings while I'm changing the suspension next week.

Thx.

I had a similar problem and took it to the dealer to have it looked at along with some other stuff. Besides that, they diagnosed the squeaking coming from worn control arm bushings due to my altered suspension. They just used a lubricant and lubed up those control arm bushings and alleviated the problem severely NO CHARGE

CoupeCrazy - do you know what kind of lubricant they used? Or maybe have a part # from a receipt?

No parts changed so couldnt tell you any pn's from my invoice. All my service adviser told me was that they used some kind of "high industrial lubricant", no brand names mentioned. Call a tech at a dealer and ask them what kind of lubricant they use on their cars Pretty sure they can give you answers.

Well, my problem started a few thousand miles ago and now its just gotten worse. It pretty much squeaks from the front end over smaller bumps now. So in summation, it could be control arm bushings, sway bar bracket bushings or the sway bar end links. I'll pick up a good silicone lubricant from Home Depot today, anyone have a good link with pictures on how to do this? As soon as I figure it out which bushings, I'd like to get them changed immediately.

Alright.... they replaced the drivers supporting joint at the wheel carrier. That's what my paperwork says. And no, they didn't make me pay for it. Thank God. They took it as internal..otherwise I may have thrown a fit...
Thanks for everyone's input!! It sounds like it could've been a few other things as well.

p.s....squeaky brakes...does anyone know any quick and easy remedies for this )))) It can be really annoying sometimes.

Does it occur constantly or does it occur in the morning? If only in the morning that is pretty normal. If it occurs most of the time, I think it could be due to warped rotor. Just my .02 cents, pretty sure others may have input.

it's the squeaky from the brake dust...so if i let my car sit while i'm working.. i'll have to "wear it off" by braking hard and then it'll stop. I've heard over and over that this is a part of MB brakes, there's tons of brake dust and squeaks sometimes..

When it comes time to do your brakes, get some "Akebono" ceramic
brakes. Thats the brand.
They last forever, don't squeal, grip like crazy, and don't make a mess.

Between now and then, um, likely you're best bet is just to live with it.

In order to make sure the shop uses that brand brakes, you may have to provide them yourself.

Oh yeah, mb brakes squeak like crazy at half life.
Do these akebonos work with stock rotors? If so I'll change them now even if I still have half of the thread.

Bumping up old thread!

I've been hearing this squeaking noise from my right rear suspension recently and it kind of comes and goes noise. Everyone suggested to spray some silicone lubricant on the sway bar bushings and endlink bushings and I think I'm going to try that. Should I be concerned about other things? I do have Tein Basic COs in my car.

The thing is I'm not familir with these bushings, can anyone please post some pictures of them? I did find some threads with decent pics and perhaps, someone can point me the bushings.

Either one should be good? Just spray and drive? How much should I spray?

I found some threads regarding rear squeaking. I just realized that the squeaking only happened in colder weather as it also started to squeak last winter.
