Engine asking for 1 quart of engine oil
I am very suprised to have this issue with a car that only has 52K miles on it. Oh, at about 50K the driver side CAT blew out.

Mine did the same thing, about 800 miles prior to its next scheduled service.
If it had just been serviced, then:
A) They didn't put enough oil in it.
B) It does have a leak and/or is burning a lot of oil.
C) They didn't really do the service.
If you're close to your next service, don't worry about it unless the problem persists after getting the service done.

Some oil consumption is fine but that is too much. The trouble with used AMG's is you never know how hard they have been thrashed. Especially in SA. They are however very tough engines.
That said you might have a leak. Most common cause on that series/family of engines is the cam bore blanker plugs on the rear of the cylinder heads. Please check this. There are different configurations. Some engines have a vacuum pump mounted where the one cam blanker goes. Otherwise have a compression test done or even better a cylinder leakdown test. That will tell you whether you have ring belt wear or require new valve stem seals. If you run down a hill against compression and the floor it do you get a big puff of blue smoke from the exhaust?

Bulletin:
Oil Seepage From Back of Cylinder Heads on Mercedes M272/273 etc. Engines
This bulletin affects all Mercedes vehicles equipped with M272/273 engines built up to June 2008 production date.
If you receive customer reports of oil seeping from Mercedes vehicles equipped with M272/273 engines, the cause could be the round plastic expansion plugs on the back of the cylinder heads (Figure 1). To resolve, perform the following.
Note: As of June 2008 production, new improved plugs were phased into production.
There are two different size plugs as listed below:
• p/n - A000 998 55 90 – 2 small expansion plugs
• p/n - A000 998 56 90 – 1 large expansion plug (engines without vacuum pump)
Remove the existing plugs, clean the opening and install new plugs (Figure 2). Note: The plug opening should free of grease or oil. No sealer should be used in the installation of the new plugs.
Good luck!

At that consumption I'm worried that you have a broken ring. At idle do you hear any ticking from the engine other than injectors & cam to tappet?
