Fixed MAGAZINE EMPTY error on OEM cd changer

Hey, guys, my cd changer was giving me the "Magazine Empty" error on my c coupe C230 2004. I was about to take it in to the dealer for repair when I read somewhere just now that if you get that error, you take out all the cds and let the changer read the empty cartridge a couple of times. Then pop in one cd -- and see if it reads.

IT DID.

FIXED.

I also fixed mine as well. Eject button will light up but the tray would not eject. Well i took off the front face plate from the 6 disk cd changer. And realigned the eject button and simple fix.. that saved me $$$ =D

wow, thanks for the tip! that's good to know.

when that happened to mine (about a year and a half ago), I took it back to the dealer and had them replace the entire changer under warranty...

the thing is, I think I've used the changer a grand 3 times since then...

I use my CD changer quite extensively. I have 3 or 4 CD cartridges, so I swap them out every once in a while, when I get bored of the current tunes. I've never had a problem with it though, but it's good to know that there's a fix for this error message.

Also have my iPod and SIRIUS through my AUX input.
I think I use all 3 audio sources just about the same.

Carlos, that is an idea with your iPod and more cd cartridges. But you must have a better sound system that my OEM one -- what do you think of the OEM system?

Oh yeah, and the article I read that told how to fix the empty magazine error -- said the problem is on the OEM CD changer is this little arm inside that pulls the CDs or something. It needs to be "reset" with the empty cartridge for a few cycles. That was a great piece of advice. Now I wish I remembered where I read it...

I have the BOSE sound speaker/sub system that came with the Coupé.
However, I also have the COMAND 2.0 head unit, which replaced the AUDIO 30 radio. (I've heard that AUDIO 10 [Euro version] is actually better than both AUDIO 30 and COMAND when it comes to sound quality). But, I love the sound in the Coupé. I have the identical BOSE set-up in a C320 Sport Sedan, and hands-down, the acoustics of the Coupé are 1,000 times better than the Sedan.

Carlos, that's cool, I thought you probably had better set up than in my Coupe's OEM speakers. You are right the sound comes at you nicely in the Coupe, but I do kind of know that my speakers aren't Bose. It sounds okay OEM in the Coupe. Neat that you have the Comand set up. I kind of like having the old time availability of cassettes, which I still sometimes use for interviews and stuff.

I've got the A10 in my C, and I have to say I think it sounds great. I pulled my CD changer to add my iPod interface, and have not missed it at all - the wife and I only argue now "whos" iPod gets plugged in!

Resurrecting an old thread here...

Im seeing the same "Magazine Empty" error.

I just tried getting the CDC to read the empty magazine a few times, but get the same message after even with a CD inserted.

Are there any extra steps you performed?

Worst case, I might pull out the CDC, open it up and see if I can fix it.

The one I have (stock '02 C230 Coupe) does not.

The changers on '06 models or newer do.

Magazine Empty error

I received the Magazine empty error on my MC3010 as well. I took out the magazine and emptied all the CD's and loaded it back in a few times. I then noticed on the 3rd or 4th attempt, the CD display was cycling thru the CD trays (1-6). Then I put a CD in and all is well. Wow, that saved me alot of time. Thanks for the tip......

I popped a new CD in my changer the other day...

after feeling all proud months ago fixing it...

now the "eject" button in green lights up BUT it will not eject the cassette

getting a "NO CD" error message..

Anyone know anything outside of prying it out with a crowbar?

2006 280 4matic and 2008 C350 sport
I know this is an old *** thread but maybe someone will read it and help me out here. I have the 6 CD changer in the glove box on my 2006 C280. The single CD in-dash player works just fine. I bought a new magazine because the car did not have one when I bought it. When I put the magazine in and pressed the "CDC" button I get "CD ERROR" message right away and the mag does not eject. But then sometimes it seems like it tries to engage cuz the dash screen reads that it is reading a CD from the magazine and I can hear it engaging but then the CD ERROR message comes back. And then other times it won't eject at all and other times it ejects. I've tried it with the mag loaded, unloaded, with store bought CDs, pirate CDs and it always gives me CD ERROR message and ultimately will not play. I haven't gotten any other message... just CD ERROR... What Up???????? Any help is greatly appreciated.
