Speed questions PART 2
OK...in continuation from my other questions.
Here' the scenario. MY friend thinks he can "smoke" my c320 with his IS300. Of course with my MB pride i said "yah rite"...so basically we have to prove it at the local track this coming weekend...with a few sidebets from other friends. All of them say that its gonna be a close race and reaction time might be a factor.
I need your valuble opinions on the best ways to shift:
for example....Do i just "floor it" ...or should i "up shift" like a manual. also...will it make a difference if i turn the ESP to "off".
Your opinons are greatly appreciated. dont hesitate to suggest new options.

Jorel...
1) Turn off ESP...
2) Mash the gas and go...
3) As the yellow lights move down the tree, say, "Geez, look at that new Civic Si!"
I'm sending good vibes your way. Let us know how it turns out.

On my C230k, it shifts right at redline to the next gear up, keeping you in the power range until it's well... fast enough to know who won.
I've found that forcing it down in the range does a better job than the kickdown functionality.
ESP of course should be turned off only if you are familar with what the car is going to do, and the course is familar to you, for safety.
I'd consider at least a few practice runs before you meet him.

Should be close. Lexus claims 0 to 60 in 7.3 (automatic) and 6.8 (manual) and MB claims 0 to 60 in 7.2 (standard), I forget what for automatic.
Tips:
1. Run on 1/4 tank of gas. (less weight)
2. Leave spare at home. (less weight)
3. Drop tire PSI to 25. (more traction)
4. Turn off ESP.
5. Pre-heat tires.
6. Take out rear seat (ok, I'm pushing it here).
7. Spray WD-40 on his tires when he's busy cleaning his sunglasses.
8. Put a banana in his tailpipe.
Good luck!

I have found it advantageous to rev while holding the brakes (just rev a little, say 2000 rpm) on my dad's 2000 230K sedan. Dont worry about the race, the IS automatic was consistantly tested at 7.2-7.9 while the 320 cleaned up at 6.9-7.1. R&T got 6.8 and the 1/4 in 15.1@93.3 compared to 7.1 and 15.3@92.8 for the IS. You gotta come through for us!! Good luck-

Get the chip installed!
All of Rick's points are good esp. the last two!
I'd use a heavier oil though -a nice 20W 50 should do wonders!
May the force be with you- it should be a good close race.

and let the tranny do the shifting for you... the professionals (if you call the media that) have consistently found that the best times to be had in MB tests is by just letting the trans do its own thing.
at the line, ESP OFF, foot on brake, bring revs to ~2000... when the last light goes yellow (don't anticipate it, just wait for it, when you see it...) side-step the brake and mash depress the throttle in a linear fashion (the trick is to NOT invoke the traction-control that stays functional even with ESP off). this will yield you excellent results for your 60-foot times.
for the rest of the race, keep your foot down and keep it pointed straight.

While driving the C230k and the S430 i've noticed a definate advantage with the ESP off. I'd hafta say keep the engine warm while waiting. What i've found to be advantageous in street races is keepin the left foot on the brake and the right on the gas at about a bit above 2000, green light hits and mash the gas and make sure to get off that brake. Might wanna run a test run to see that you don't spin ur tires tho. It'll be a close race for sure, but if by chance u lose challenge him to a track race and you'll certainly show him what's up... BTW Jorel what type of hyperwhite lights do you use in ur C320 and what is the flat badge thing?

Thanks for thie tips...im definately gonna smoke him.
p010sp0rt8: The hyperwhite i used were fairly cheap and not that populor. I used nokya's and Falcons on all 8 front bulbs (2 low beam, 2 high beam, 2 standing, 2 blinkers) it looks pretty good very white with a tint of blue. I guess im still in that stage where i want other racers to see it and try to challenge me. I heard from the other members that PHILLIPS was a good choice. You should try those. My next goal is the amber fogs and the prepainted reflectors. Ill try to post a picture of the flat badge. It t replaces the stand up emblem.
Ima bring a cantelope at the race in case he changes exhaust on me.

oh ok!!! i just remerbered u had a 320 not a 230, cuz the 230's already have the flat badge on the hood. I thought you meant somehow you got the benz symbol in the back to be flat or something =P :p

It looks ok without the bodykit but ofcourse better with it. We made sure it will fit if i ever get a body kit though. Its not that loud, but does sound like a v8 when "floored"...basically...u cant role up on a civic and rev on him cuz he wont notice. But he will notice your exhaust when u smoke him.
