W203/CL203 Aftermarket Wheel Thread - All you want to know
#1276
i have boguht the bolts that frank have suggested and didnt even use them. i just went to the tire shop and tell them that i have aftermarket wheels to put on my car. they had two kinds of bolts. one was longer and one was shorter. i went with the shorter one and they fit. not sure of the exact size but i dont think you have to worry. the tire shop should know. just go and ask.

Not trying to be rude, but what if I planned on buying the tires mounted on the rims and did not need to go to a local wheel shop? I don't understand why it is such an imposition for someone to post what the right size of lugs are to order and from what reliable source??? I thought that forums like this were meant to help others. If this imformation was previously posted, I apologize, as I must have missed it along with the others that have asked. If I had the right ones on my car, I would be more than happy to go remove a lug and measure it, but I don't, sorry.

Thanks KickR!
Your right and Steve is right. If I had the right information in the first place, I wouldn't be asking 10 times. When people get their wheels on and get things resolved, they forget about the other people around here.
I'm putting on the wheels myself and don't need the tireshop to charge me $5 for each lug bolt and need to shop around each tire shop and find someone that has them.

i got the box for the lugs i got. ill put the numbers down as soon as i get out of work. i got them from american tires if this helps anyone. i just asked them for lugs that would fit my aftermarket wheels and they gave me these. they are the lock lug ones. ill give the numbers in a couple hours.
i jsut remember i saw the box this morning in my trunk. i thought i threw it away. but since i didnt ill come back with the measurements.

Man, I am just about through with this board and all its hormones.
First, I didn't forget about ANYONE after my rims were installed. I have been out of town away from my car. Yes, some of us have to work for a living.
Second, you can't just go to any shop and have them take care of it. My local NTB couldn't even mount the tires, much less find bolts. The next few I called told me to source and bring the bolts. I had to really search to find the right shop to help out, and it ended up being a stereo joint!!
Next, bad info has been given several times. It's not ball seat, it's conical. It's not 72mm, it's this. I was as frustrated as all of you.
So... I'm back in the same geography as my car. The bolt shank is 32mm from what I can tell, same size all the way around. This is the threaded portion with a blank area at the top that's maybe 3/4 inch. I used allen head bolt with a key to keep the lug wrench out of the wheel wells by the way. I'm also a Pisces and have a love for cajun food and Norah Jones' first CD. Anything else you guys need to know?

Just to make things more confusing... I spoke to Michael Wilson from EVOSPORT who sells these TSW Bremma Wheels and he said the measurements should be 12 x 1.5 28mm shank.

I wonder if there will be any problem using the 28MM with the 3mm spacer. I'll try it anyway and if I can't get the 28MM to work than I will have to use the 33MM that I bought from Franks recommendation.
I'll see what KickR does too and compare.
Have you guys look at the thread reply counts on this one. It must be the biggest thread around this W203 forum.

Just found out that the ball seat ones we have dont work with the wheels. the ball seat wouldnt really sit tight enough in the hole of the wheel which is set up for a conical seat.
I will try to find some time tomorrow to take of the wheels and figure out with the ones i have now, how much they are too long or to short and then try to find the exact size.
the link doesnt look bad, but im afraid of ordering the wrong ones again, because the 28mm might be too short for the front.

finally found some time
This afternoon i put on the wheels - one front one rear - to see how it works out with the bolts that some of us ordered from that link
first of all: the spacers fit perfectly and clear the calipers by about 3mm
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Front:
i used the 33mm ones and they stand out 5mm in the back, which actually is okay, because front brakes have a hole after the hub.
Rear:
again the 33mm because the 50mm ones are WAY too long. at first it seemed like it is barely okay. i let the car roll down my drive way without any problems of the bolts making trouble in the back. when i wanted to go for a small round in my street i heard a little cracking noise in the back - SO the 33mm are too much. dont even try to use them because you are going to damage the setup no matter what.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
since the front stands over 5 mm and the 33mm in the rear were too much I will order from the last link: 20 of the 12x1.5x28mm with the conical seat. (thx again ernster) so the same bolts for front and back as mentioned before.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
BUT - when i turn my wheel all the way, the front wheel rubs on the plastic right behind the light (see link).

also i must say, that the OEM caps dont look bad at all, but wanted to catch your opinion on that real quick.

Thanks KickR!
Now that we know the 28MM works what do we do about the rubbing issue on the front?
It seems that these wheels don't suppose to work on 05C230SS if the wheels are rubbing the plastic. Think of going at high speeds like 60-70MPH and making turns off exit ramps and stuff. This will burn the rubber or the plastic off over time.
Can one of you guys who own a C55 or the Coupe tell us if you have the same problem?

well it only touched the plastic when i had the wheel turned ALL the way to one side. going up and down highway ramps you shouldnt have to turn it that much that it would rub. when i get them on next week i will just look every once in a while how it turns out. if it should rub really bad, i guess i can heat up the plastic and bend it inside a little for another 1/2 - 3/4 inch because there is the possible room for it on both sides

19" wheels are basically oversize wheels when we run 235/35/19 and 265/30/19 because the overall size is larger than the 225/45/17 and 245/40/17. To keep the overall diameter you have to run 225/35/19 and 245/30/19, but then it is not a very smart thing to do to expose the rims.
Rubbing on the plastic inner wheel well is inevitable. Nothing to worry about.
