new to the board - which c class?
Hi everyone,
I'm new to the board, I'm getting ready to turn my Saab back on lease in 2 months. I have decided for my next daily driver I am going to pick up either a 2006 or 2007 w203 c class. My new problem is, I can't figure out which c class I want. It's either going to be a c230 or c280, I haven't driven either, which would obviously help a lot, I'm going to try and hit the dealer this week.
I would appreciate everyone's input on this matter, I do not want 4 matic, I currently live in Boise where I could use it, but I am relocating back to the bay area asap.
I like the styling of the c230 better, but it seems like you get a bit more features in general with the c280. Is there a real world difference between the engines? I realize the c280 has a tad more power, does it feel faster on the butt dyno?
Thanks in advance,
John Strauch

2005 Mercedes C230 Sport Sedan (W203)
Do some more reading/research and you will see the differences of each. Since you're buying used you'll probably see a lot more C230's available since its the more popular model so you'll have a bigger range to choose from there.
The C280 has a little bit more as far as what comes standard so you're likely to see them spec'd out a bit better as far as options. If I recall correctly, the C230 is more powerful then the C240 if you're talking 2001-2004 models, but once you hit the 2005-2007 range, the C230 has less power than the C280 as you'd expect.
Also FYI, the 2001-2005 C230 has the four cylinder supercharged "kompressor" engine, which is great on gas. 2006+ has the six cylinder. This makes the 2005 a popular choice because you get the economical engine with the updated interior.
There are minimal differences other than engines between the 2005, 2006, and 2007 models.

Yeah, I know the 05's have a supercharged motor, I wasn't aware they had more power though than the 06-07's..
I'm 99% sure it's going to be an 06 or 07 because I want a CPO and I think they represent the best value.

Ha, buy 2 2002 C230 Coupes. One for driving and one for parts.
Cheaper than one 2006 or 2007.

I really don't know what you are suggesting. Do you want me to search for similar threads and revive them, or are you referring to the other thread that is similar to mine and I should have posted there? I'm not sure what the second link is supposed to mean, it's a link to DIY mods.
Thanks to FrankW anyways, you were helpful.
