Question Door speakers

Hello Guys

If I have to replace the door front speakers, do I have to replace the whole component(speakers, tweeters and crossover) or will I be ok if I just replace the speakers.
Also what kind of speakers are the stock ones. Anyone seen it.?

I tried to remove the door panel....no luck. does anyone have pictures of how to remove the door panel and the tweeter covers.?

I know that someone put together a short "how-to" on it. Basically, there are two screws - one behind the "SRS" badge and one behind a pretty obvious cover on the handle. I could be wrong, but don't think that I am.

Here's my question to you, though: if you're going to replace components, why would you replace them with non-components? Even with an assumed increase in quality of speakers, it seems a waste of time & money to NOT replace them with better components.

As for the stock speakers, I think the brand is "Lousy", if sound is any indication.

The brand name of the stock speakers differ from production batch to batch, we've got a 2001 w203 and a 2002 w203 both C200K. The stock speaker in the 2001 is Eurovox, but on the 2002 is Philips. Talk about the lowest bidder!

Be careful in removing the door panel's you can damage the panel's so that they will not fit correctly and loose their tightness. You will end up with rattles and squeaks.

I've looked and it took a while to find the instructions on removing the tweeter covers. Once off, how do you disconnect the speaker wire?

Here are three other threads similar questions, and no answers:

Best info I've found so far (posted by gaiex):

Slide it off, but first open the window and pop off the tabs holding it in place.

Hope this consolidation helps someone else looking for the same kind of info.

If anyone knows how to release the speaker wires though, please share. I can't find a release tab for it. This is the connector with the square drawn around it.
