Cost of fuel pump + sevice 'A'

I had a dead fuel pump replaced and service 'A' done at a dealership in southern California. It cost $1,205. Does this sound reasonable? Did I get overcharged?
Thanks.

Can you list out what the costs were to replace the fuel pump? Sounds VERY high, however, I have not heard what type of work is required to replace the fuel pump.

No, but $750 seems to be the going rate from dealers for pump replacement. Pump cost about $250, Service A maybe $200, that leaves $755 for labor which is about 8 hours. I doubt it took an hour to replace. How did the costs break down on the invoice?

Did you get to keep the Lock Ring Tool? At $150 bucks, I would have insisted I keep it.

I hate when they tell you that you have to pay for a tool. Like a car repair, and they make you pay for JIG rental.

Mleskovar...do you think changing the fuel filter just prior to recommended intervals will allow for a longer fuel pump life?

i would certainly pitch a b!tch about the fact that you had to pay for the tool. that sounds pretty bogus. i am also curious to know why they had to replace both sending units. there very well may be a good reason for that- but i'm not too knowledgeable about how the fuel system works in these cars.

The person posting said nothing of paying for the tool.
The other poster who DIY'd bought the tool...
ya buncha *******.
Geez.

Looks like the total DIY cost was 538.60
So labor in Knoxville woulda been about 200 in 2004.
Here in Cali it would be double to triple that.

1200 sounds high to me, but then anything I can do myself, I'll do and pocket the change.
An oil change DIY costs about 50-75 or if you buy oil on sale like I do, about $20. The rest of the A service is just inspections, just follow the sheet.
Easy.

So that's about 1/2 to DIY on both items.

I'll spend a few hours to save $600.

I was quoted $1100 just for the fuel pump replacement. This after the dealer replaced the fuel pump filter for $300. I knew I was being ripped, so didn't get the fix done.

Calm down curmudgeon. What I was referring to was before I went to DIYUni and saw that the guy did it himself.

Ohh, and $300 for a gas filter change...YIKES! Thing takes $45 minutes to do and that includes the time it takes me to make a Gin and Tonic afterward.

Ha, yeh the filter change.
I got hung up on the clamps, and it took forever to get a straight answer from
folks around here (ie pop 'em off with a screwdriver).

I'm about due for that one...messy.
I paid less than $40 for the filter.
$260 buys a lot of cocktails!

Shoulda done it when I did the diff oil.
Ha, but that also became a project since only one store within 50 miles sold
the right metric allen socket.

It is messy. The kicker on my enjoyment of cars....

I'm seriously allergic to gas. I get a TERRIBLE reaction from just the fumes. never mind if it is spewing out under pressure.
