Room Bashing

It seems lately that people are more concerned with bashing each other and using 8th grade name calling tactics. I personally don't want neon, or strobes but as they say " there is an *** for every seat" fighting those that pose ideas we don't like isn't going to change things. Just makes the forum not worth visiting.

Look back at the Fifties with chopped tops, electric door releases, so on and so forth.

Living in the area I do, there are a billion look alike benzes, Mostly S Class. My car doesn't even get a second look here.

Can't we go back to the if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all?

Just my two cents worth.

i agree. i know people get upset about things but try not to get personal. opinions are fine but there is no need to get derogatory.

try to keep it in perspective and lets be civil.

Unhappy

As I've done research on other cars I considered, the name calling and in-fighting stuff seems pretty juvenile. I've been reading on alot of different message forums, and I appreciate this one because people for the most part are professional and very helpful.

I thought I wouldn't read that kind of stuff on a board like this because it is "MERCEDES". It should be a higher class and more mature group of people. We wouldn't "rice" out or drop your Mercedes. Keep it stock, clean and enjoy the ride.

Let's be honest here, because of the price range and typical buyer of a Mercedes Benz (well educated, well above normal per capita annual income) you will hardly find that "rice boy" mentality prevalent in this forum, the same way as you might in other circles. Even amongst the C-Coupe, it's not marketed to, nor are the typical buyers of, that segment. They are typically generation X 30-40 year old urban professionals, who wouldn't deface their car in such a manner. All that said, if we get individuals in here who make continuous posts about neons, strobes, a large Type R sticker on the back of there Mercedes, I think it's incombunt upon us to make them realize that it's defacing their car and ruining the image of the car. As to your comment: "Just makes the forum not worth visiting." Honestly, I would hope the comments do make the forum not worth visiting to somebody who wants to add all kinds of ungodly, ugly, and cheap modifications to their Mercedes. Let the trash stay away. I also take issue to your implication that the people who respond to the "ricers" conduct themselves like "8th graders". I would conversely say that there is nothing more immature, tacky, and "8th grade" than ruining your Mercedes in such a manner.

What are the limits to modifyin a benz then??????????? I personally wouldnt put strobes or neons...but if it looks good and it was put on clean....shoudnt we give it props...i say we just wait untill the person does it then we can clown on it all we want if its ugly. Ive seen benz that most people might say was riced out...but it looked very classy. I guess it really depends on the type of mod and if it looks good on the car.

There will always be differences of opinion in any forum like this. Provided one can lucidly explain their position in a calm manner, I think such opinions should always be welcomed and respected, even if you don't agree with them. One should not take it to heart if their idea is not popular here... Some of us feel it's important to explain why we have positions, in hopes of converting an opinion or two. It's how we all learn from each other.

However, profane name calling, and characterizing opinions as ebonic, asian, gay, lesbo, trailer-trash, in-bred hick, etc., or generalized expressions of hatred for lawyers, doctors, poor people, rich people, old people, foreigners, and this or that religion, etc., IMO crosses the line, bringing extra (unnecessary) baggage to a discussion that quickly turns less civil in almost all cases. At this point, I agree that one should think first before typing, then hopefully keep their opinions to themselves, rather than express them here.

I'm not perfect at it myself. But I try...

my point is not whether modifying a car is good or bad. in fact, i'm very offended by the term r1cers - as i do think its racist. but i understand it's a free country.

it about being constructive vs calling each other names. other forums have strict guidelines that prohibit any personal attacks against another member and i wish we had such guidelines here also.

MB-BOB, very well said.

As for my two cents... I come here looking for information and opinions (important to understand that) about Mercedes cars, modifications, etc. and hopefully to enjoy myself while I'm at it (some of you guys crack me up). It's unfortunate that some people post derogatory comments, but I do my best to ignore them, as I hope others will too. Hopefully, all that have contributed to this message board and have made it such a great place to exchange ideas/information will continue posting, and set an example for others.

On a lighter note, if only somewhat related, my wife (who works for an eye doctor) told me that one of their older patients, about 74, came in and said she had just gotten a "kompressor", and a 6-spd at that! She said is was the first new car she had ever bought, since her husband always had the new one (maybe he's now deceased ). Anyway, she had called her accountant to see if she could afford it, and he said go for it! Oh well, if these elders keep buying the coupe, it won't help the MB demographics .

So she might be single? I've been looking for honeys with Benzes. Hook me up!

About the recent disturbances, I guess I should take some of the blame. I get up on my high horse quicker than Tonto, which I should learn to control better.

I guess it is hard to find a new shiny red super stock Dodge these days. You never know who drives what. About twenty years ago, I was about to enter a restaurant when the first C4 Corvette I had seen pulls into the lot. The driver took about five minutes to get himself and his aluminum crutches out of the car. He must have been 85 or so. If I reach that age, I hope I am driving something similar.

lately work has kept me posting to a minimum, but i have to chime in.

i am 25, i make around 60k a year, i sold a slightly modded gsr, and bought a coupe. am i gonna "rice it out?" no, but even if i was, its not of your concern. As long as i make my payments every month, and my names on the title, i can slap on lightup wiper blades, red type r stickers and fart can exhausts.

again let me reiterate, i have no intention of doing this.

BUT i have enough respect for everyone else on this board to politely voice my oppinions, and step aside while you and the next guy do whatever they want with their MBs.

Please remember, many older MB enthusiasts dont even consider the c230 a "real" mercedes, or the entire c class come to think of it. That kinda silly high-brow exclusionary attitude i dont want to be part of. If you see a post about type r badges, stop in say your peace in a nonderogatory manner, and move along to the next thread.... or dont even look at.

I have no desire to make anyone feel anything less then welcome at this board, especially if that person is a mercedes enthusiast, EVEN if they show that pride in a different way then me.

be proud of your car, do what you want with it, its your car... but mostly, be nice to each other, even people with different views then yours.
