Question clutch pedal clicks (any suggestions)

when i depress the clutch pedal, i can 'feel' and hear it click. anyone have this problem? if so, did you figure out what it was so i can tell my service department so they'll know what part to order or what to do to fix it.

Why do you assume this is a problem? It doesn't sound like one to me. It's probably some kind of a switch attached to it. I think I've heard something like that before on mine, but not sure. It's hard to hear. Unless you have a real loud sound that wasn't there before, I wouldn't worry about it.

well, it gets worse when it's cold out. it doesn't do it all the time. and i've not heard it on the 3 other C230s i've test driven. i'm not worried about it, it's just a nit picky thing. it's not that bad, but as long as it's free i'll have them fix it.

Sometimes when it's cold, I can hear the clutch spring flex when the pedal gets near the floor. I don't know if this is the sound you're talking about -- though I don't really feel it in the pedal. I think there are a couple of switches connected to the clutch, starter interlock and cruise control cutoff, although I've never looked for the physical switches. If you can visually check while pushing the clutch with your hand you might be able to see something.

For a while, my brake pedal was making a clicking sound like when the brake switch or cruise switch was activated but the noise has stopped now.

I know what you mean. I had to drive a friend's old and beaten Neon yesterday, and I caught myself thinking that it was easier to put into 1st and 2nd.

I brought up this phenomenon to the dealer a long time ago. The tech pointed at the attaching spring and switches and demonstrated the clutch depressing motion. Then he sprayed some WD-40 type lubricant on them and said that's the most he could do.

From that on I just turn up the music volume and no more clicking noise

There shouldn't be a cruise control cutoff switch. I can shift gears and it stays on cruise. Does everyone else's cars do that too?

I'm not sure if this is true on the coupe, I've got an auto, but I know on my Boxster that the clutch clicks when depressed due to a sensor that makes sure the clutch is in when you start it, so it won't jump. This could be it, someone want to check? Thanks!

There is a switch for that, but I don't know if this is the thing making the noise.

My turn signal clicks...I must go to the dealer. Something wrong.

Another problem...when I turn off ESP and step hard on the gas I hear a squeeling/screeching noise from the back of the car...sometimes there's smoke...more crap MB quality I'm sure. I'll bet a Hyundai would never make that squeeling from the rear noise!!!

And how come when I hit the brakes really hard they won't lock up...too weak!!!

Another thing...the radio volume goes up and down on its own...what gremlin now?

And when I'm stuck in the snow with my big grippy C7 tires the car just sits there when ESP is on...I thought that stupid program made my MB unstoppable in the snow!!! Jip!!!

And sometimes, the damn wipers change speed or just stop for periods! My Honda had intermittent wipers.

And the motor on the back sunroof hasn't ever worked since day one!! Just total BS. And how come the windows rise all the way after only 1 push...I almost got my head caught in there the other day when I pulled up too far from the tyme machine and had to hang half my body out the window to reach the machine. I think I should sue the ATM mfr, and MB!

Your not supposed to hear the volume go up and down so it is a problem now isn't it? :p

If you RTFM, there is a cruise cutoff switch on the clutch, but it has a 4 sec. timer on it. Hold the clutch down for 4 sec. and it cutoffs the cruise.

First time I used the clutch to kill the cruise... I was used to my Honda (which just killed the cruise) and I 'bout got killed.

Now that I'm used to it I kinda like it, I drive in moderate traffic on the return trip after work (at night) and it works real well for me to coast a bit and even downshift/upshift with the cruise on to adjust speed.

okay, thanks everyone. i realize there are all sorts of switches and stuff down there but this click isn't supposed to be there, trust me. i've test driven many C230s. this click gets horrible sounding sometimes. like the pedal is old and creaking, like an old squeaky door. you're right though, it's probably nothing and it is probably just a button that needs to have some WD-40 on it or something. actually i'll try that tonight. it's no big deal and i love my car and i'm not complaining about MB or the car. i love MB and i am in no way like the people that complain about MB or their cars if that's what Outland is implying. go back and read my posts when i first got the car and you'll realize how much i love this car and i still love it. just wondering what this little noise is, just a little nit picking. might as well take care of it while it's free.

I think Outland is just poking fun at all our "maybe it's this" responses to your question...

Thanks. I don't remember reading that part. The last time I RTFM was 8 months ago when I got the car. I remember most of the things about the car just because I am around them all day long at work, but there are many things with these cars that are hard for the average person to figure out on their own. Many things aren't obvious and require reading.

but if it doesnt stop giving gas to the engine then it will continue to rev once you press in the clutch. there should be something to stop the fuel flow to the engine. maybe not attached to the clutch but there should be something.

True, there should be something. I will mess around with it a little when I go out today and see what happens.

Cruise control maintains speed even if you shift gears. It surprised me the first time I tried it.

Citron, I tested this today as promised. When I put in the clutch with the cruise on, it did actually rev higher for about a second and then the revs came down. I guess there is something in the computer that senses this. And it does turn off cruise if the clutch is held in long enough.

Not to worry...I'm just yanking your chain. Getting in my advance strike before Buellwinkle shows up and proclaims it another example of crappy MB reliability and quality
