I think I'm going to hold of on buying and installing the factory command and wait for the avic z110bt. For a little bit more, it has way better options and it doesn't look too bad.

Just finished installing the MCSII (COMAND) unit, and I DID need a trip to the Dealer for MOST FIBER RING CONFIGURATION, once it was properly configured, it all worked!

I have NOT yet tried the TURN BY TURN in the MFD...I need to learn how to check that!

The interior console / trim, to remove it all is not hard...I would recommend covering all of your interior trim in blue painters tape to avoid any scratches! We had a close call removing the lower storage unit with the center console trim just pulled up. There are SHARP clips that hold it down at the end of the shifter, near teh storage (ash tray) compartment...

Removing the IP and the IP Hood is not hard, and the whole IP is only ONE connection in the back - Once you have it out, you can place the GPS antenna in the proper location.

All in all, for one day of use so far - I love it!
Good luck all,
Jake

Only my opinion.
I agree, on my aunt's Lexus, the navi IS 10 times better!!!!

does the antenna work through the dash? or do you have to put it up on the dash near the window? I want to make sure I'm understanding this exactly. Plus with an aftermarket system does this negate your changer since its run through fibre optics?

I have not had enough time to really do anything with it other than set up the MAP and then use NAVIGATION to test "getting me home" which worked GREAT! I pulled out the IP (Instrument Panel / Gauge Cluster / Clocks / Tacho / ETC.) and the surrounding hood...BECAREFUL of the reset / dimmer knob! I placed the GPS FAKRA Connection antenna with the "finished side" (with molded logo) down, and the "raw side / silver side" up toward the sky. The OEM Retro-Fit WIS sheet says this is the location, and to remove the THREE screws behind the IP to loosen the IP frame, and glue / secure the antenna in the upper RIGHT (in board) hand side. The BLUE Fakra connection on the back of the COMAND is already keyed into a location in your console! The fine Engineers at Mercedes-Benz hav left ample room, plus a cut in the foam to allow the long connector to fit!

I was a little confused looking at the back of the radios to see how to disconnect all of the wires...well that too is SUPER simple, just roate down one cross bar and it all (fiber cable too) disconnects! There were only two other small Fakra style connectors to unclip.

KEEP THE FIBER OPTIC ENDS SHEILDED, and away from direct light, tape up and block light on your OEM Audio 20 if you remove it, and keep light out of a used / new COMAND...I understand that brand new COMANDS / Audio 20s (other) come with the optic ports sealed / capped off.

I have no after market sound components, my CD Changer is OEM.

Thanks and good luck!
Jake

whats the difference between the 2 comand units available for the c-class?

A 203 870 29 89 and A 203 870 35 89

basically the one with the flip down screen and the other with the DVD drive visible from the outside

This is correct. There are plenty of threads that discuss the differences.
