CL203 C-Coupe Grilles (Grill) (Mattig, '05 update, etc...) Thread
#51
OK, I signed up for MB's EPC and used a 05 VIN (from Cars.com) to lookup the part # and got...
A 203 880 12 83 9744
Then I decided for Sh*ts and Giggles to lookup the same part # but using my 03 VIN and got the same part #!!!
Obviously something is off here. Can anybody confirm the part # for me?
Also, I realize it has to modified to fit, but I was wondering if I'm going to have to reuse parts from the old grill on the new one (which won't be good for me since my old one is busted up from the accident). It seems this is not the case.
BTW if anybody looks this grill up in EPC it is under Group 88: Subgroup 135.

I painted my stock grill like this. You take out the grill, pop off the chrome part, lightly sand, paint, clear coat
$25 max

Parts.com has it for 133 + 20 shipping, 153 and claims 3-5 day shipping.
(Duval used to take 2 weeks for me to the west coast).
Here on the forum I've been informed of a member RBrenton who sells OEM parts.
I've sent an email to see what the price might be, total,
and maybe we could get a group buy? I asked what he could do if we got 5 people on board.
Maybe hang loose till I get a reply. We got 2 already!
Anyone else with 2002-2004 Coupe who might want this?
Anyone want my black grill ?
I've wondered how this grill would look in Obsidian Black....
hmmmm....

It's a complete swap.
However, as noted previously, you will need to DREMMEL the bottom tabs to make them fit.
Use your old grill tabs as templates and draw with a pencil on the new grill tabs so you know where you need to cut. Then just add some molding tape.
That's what I did.
And the part # is correct. I just double checked. The 9744 at the end is the Paint Code for BRILLIANT SILVER.
Which doesn't make sense, because all the new 2005 Coupe grills were not color coded. So I don't know where you got that 9744 from.
Anyway, if that Part # is not coming up on the EPC, take it to the dealer and ask them if that Part # has been superceded.
Mercedes-Benz does that often.

The pn comes up in the epc if you add the 9744. Same with pricing.
9744 color code is the only one available.
(Was hoping maybe they came in different colors, darn.)

No, you will not need to re-use any parts from the old grill on the new one.

If you go a little further on the Ft. L site you'll see they have a handling charge so it ends up being about 160.

I might be interested in your grill - send some more pics and a price!
Else, yeah, I'm also in the market for the '05 grill. My OEM grill has an annoying stone chip on it that bugs the hell out of me everytime i clean the car!

Coupe Grills - Ebay, worth it or not?
Hi guys,
just trolling ebay looking for parts for my coupe, came across these two coupe grills
Coupe Grill 1 $139
or
Coupe Grill 2 $169
Anyone have any opinion / experience with these (as in their fitment and quality)? The first one seems to show the correct parts needed to fit to the bumper, etc...
Answers on a postcard to the usual address

ok... after reading... they are the SAME grille and the more expensive one includes the flat hood emblem. this doesn't make any sense because our coupes already have a flat hood emblem.

Here
If I understand the fitting, then in fact the grill would have four 'slates' in total. The 3 on the ebay grill(s) and the one fixed to the hood. Correct?
Edit: added link to black grill

if you read the text... they are the same grills... the black one is same physical layout but different color. the two grills on the links you posted are the same, however, and only differ with either including or not including the flat hood emblem.
i looked at the seller's store and he only offers that one style of grill for the coupe.

i guess you could say there would be 4 slats if you include the one on the hood... im not sure how it will look.. i wish they put an example photo...

Yep. I'm a little concerned the spacing between the one on the hood and the first slate of the actual grill might look off.

Will Mattig grill fit to AMG front bumper??
I'm going to change my stock 180k Sports Coupe front bumper to AMG one.. There is still one problem.. My car is facelift so my current grill won't fit and I don't want to cut it. It also looks little bit too narrow!(?) Is the pre-facelift grill wider than post-facelift grill or am I just looking it wrong? But because I have to get a new grill I think I'm going to get Mattig one because of the cleaner look and much cheaper price. I'm just thinking will the Mattig grill fit to AMG front bumper?
