Remote Start...

Yes, I asked. I've read countless posts of people saying it won't work, and I've read others saying it can be done, plus I've read of people getting it done successfully. So..what's the real deal here? I understand the whole laser/smart key issue, but people have overcome it. Please, if you have REAL ACTUAL knowledge on the subject post it here. Many of you know I'm from Hawaii...well, not anymore. Haha, we live in St. Louis now due to wife's law school. Just wanted to mention that since the remote start issue will make more sense..haha.

If you respond be clear and concise with your post and add pics if possible/available. Also provide PROOF that what you posted holds water. I am in the process of doing a heated seat mod after reading countless pages of gibberish and high hopes. I'll post that up when I complete it. Just waiting on parts.

Thanks!!

Far as I know, no one has done it yet. Why don't you send a message to the people you know have done it? I have it on my Corrolla- does that count?

Do you seriously think that Mercedes wouldn't, at the least, offer it as an optional extra if it were actually possible? If not, they're missing out on a great way to make more money...

here is the deal. I have remote started a smartkey based MB... I did this 3 years ago on an 04 SL500 and as far as I know this is the *only* time that the concept has been demonstrated. To do this I had to write special software to run on a laptop connected to the vehicle but it did the job which was to demonstrate the concept could work and be built into a product...

From there it went absolutely nowhere for reasons of cost and practicality. Its an expensive proposition to have this done and most (read everybody) that have asked have balked at the price. There is work going on to get the price down to something more manageable though so there may be future developments.

I went to Circuit City Auto and they said they could not install a remote start on my car bc of the electrical work

I then ran over to Best Buy and they said it was no problem to install a viper remote start...just had to pay out the asssssssssssss

Going to either of those stores for any electrical work in our cars will result in one of two things regardless of what they say:

They will turn around and realize they can't do it.

OR

They will attempt to do it, hack up your car, damage your car, and still fail.

Taking any vehicle to BB or CC is a REALLLLY bad idea.
