My first speeding ticket
On that note, it's not as if I've never done anything myself... I got a speeding ticket for 74 in a 55... when I was really doing about 80. The cop toned it down so I would only get 3 points instead of 4. I was annoyed because I was following a guy doing the same speed. The cop met the guy I was following in a corner so the gun didn't get a read on him, but on me. But speeding is speeding...
Thank you for reminding me, and all of us, that generalizations and stereotypes of young people are just those: generalizations and stereotypes. They are not fair, nor are they always accurate, and you prove it.
As for my two cents in this long thread:
I don't direct this at anyone. We all speed. We all know of places where speed limits are artificially low (I-285). But speeding smartly shouldn't mean just equipping your car with a radar detector. It should mean that when you are speeding, you make sure that 100% of your attention is focused on the task at hand - driving. Put away your phones, your cheeseburgers, your newspapers, hair dryers, fingernail files, nintendos, razors, beer, make-up, favorite books.. please do not use this time to grade papers, do homework, or catch up on the sleep you've been missing while out doing burn-outs in the wee hours.
Honestly, though - smart speeding is smart driving. It's never losing sight of the fact that every car around you contains people who mean something to someone, somewhere. As do you. Well, most of you.

And remember, if you get caught, you only have you to blame. And you will eventually get caught.
Happy motoring.

is way stale...
