By "error canceler" I think he means to say "plain-jane in-line resistor" so as to "cancel" the error the computer will get if the resistance doesn't match what the computer expects.

A resistor would work too, but likely get so hot as to melt stuff.
You'd need to put it somewhere where it could dissipate the heat.

then halogens are drawing 50 watts while hid kits only need 35. so without xenon = present... imagine the wires to the ballast pumping out 15 more watts than needed. basically a power surge...
so either get the car coded
get a mtec kit which handles it all electronically
or get capacitor/resistor.. i personally like the idea of xenon = present so you have less things to worry about... or the mtec kit since it's supposed to be handled electronically by the ballast itself.
for the fog lights..i've heard mixed reviews... some said they've melted their housings...burned their ballast...flickers..while others have said they've been completely cool. i'd opt for the mtec or resistor/capacitor for the sole being that you're not pumping all that un-needed wattage into the ballast.

it's my understanding that if you can have the car coded to xenon = present you wouldn't need the resistor/capacitor. a tech told me the problem lies in the power difference...how much is needed to fire up the light and then keep it running at the proper wattage. the halogen takes like 10 - 15 amps to fire up when hid kits take 4 - 10 amps to fire up.

i actually talked to James and a few other people here. I bought low beams and fogs, both with the error cancelers. I was just gonna do the xenon present for the low's but didn't want to hassle with the dealership and the only other place i know that could do it woulda charged me $60. Ill use the resistor for now and set xenons to present later...

Oh well, missed out but I got them for $40 at vvme.com but $26 shipping for 2nd day DHL from the country of origin. Don't think I'll need the error cancellers if I put them in the SLK or the Smart Car.
