2006 C230 Sport Alignment & Tire Wear
I have about 70K miles and have ripped through a second set of tires. The first set (Michelin Primacy) went about 38K and this set (Goodyear Eagle F1 A/S) is down into the wear marks at 32K miles. I was hoping to get more like 50K miles from the Goodyear's. I do a fair amount of highway driving, in a mild mannered fashion.
Looking at the tires, I would say 'toe-in' on the alignment. Overall the car drives well and does not pull to either side. The car was re-aligned when new and 'camber bolts' were installed to correct a 'pulling to the right' issue.
I did a rudimentary check of the alignment and it looks like the front is 'toe-in' about 0:10' and the rear about 0:14'. These seem to be within spec., but I'm not sure. I am wondering, before I replace the tires, if I should have the local mechanic take out some of the toe-in to reduce tire wear. ????
Anybody have the exact specs for a 2006 230 Sport? I have done some searching and seen several sets of specs for the W203 chassis throughout the model years. Thanks in advance for any info and advice on this issue.

Unfortunately, I do not think there are tires made in this size that will go 50k in miles. I am actually jealous of you since I only got 16k miles out of the OE tires. I am using Kumho Ecsta ASX and have gotten about 38k from them. I am on my second set and expect to get about the same.

Thanks for the replies so far. Yes the Primacy's were not so good. Eagle F1 A/S excellent - except snow. I am considering the Kumho's.
Any thoughts on tweaking the 'toe-in' to get better wear out of the tires? Any 'gotchas' in doing that?

38,000miles is excellent for a Benz. Most would be happy with 38,000 Kms. Any tire that does 50K miles is going to be awful. Man you require a hard compound with plenty of synthetic rubber to get miles like that.
I don't drive hard, most of the time - and I would be delighted with 35 to 40,000 Kms.

Try the new Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus tires. I had the same tires as you. I replaced the rear Pilot Primacy's at 21k with the Goodyear Eagle F1 A/S. I now have 43K and replaced the OEM Pilot Primacy's on the front (Still had 4/32 treadwear, but I couldn't stand them anymore) and the Goodyear rears (Down to 2/32), with the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus tires, and am very pleased. They are even better than the Goodyears and they have a 45K mile treadwear warranty.
As far as alignment, let me see if I can dig up the spec sheet from my last alignment.

Although its need for A/S tires is likely substantially less in Southern California than one driving the Pacific Northwest, my ~2000 mile run on Michelin’s Pilot Sport A/S Plus (245/40 & 255/40) has thus far proven quite favorable. They’re excellent tires, IMHO.

sorry to bring back an old post.
But gosh darn, I just went through a set of goodyear eagle gt's in 15k miles
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....Model=Eagle+GT
The rears were bald with one being down to the cords on the inside. The fronts weren't as bad - had about 30% tread left.
So I bought a new set of michelin PS2's, got a steal at $500 for all 4 (stock wheel and tire size, and ride height) and a little credit from the horrible lifespan on the goodyears.
Then went to get alignment because I assumed there was no way a car could wear tires out this fast without a serious align problem. But guess what...alignment was perfect...about -.5 to -1 camber all around and .2 deg (per side) toe in up front and .3deg (per side) toe out in back.
So the Q is: do the goodyears blow that bad or do these Mercedes have such an aggressive stance that all tires will go that fast?
And if that's the case these new michelins will only last 10k with their low tread wear rating and softness....thank god my buddy is the manager of discount tire
thanks all

I can't speak for the sport models (heard they are bad) but my c320 is nowhere near as bad on tires I got 40k out of my last set of Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position but they are on 16 inch rims. They have a tread rating of 400 and are ultra high performance all-seasons. I have rentech shocks to put on and wonder if that will make my car start to eat tires. I am also putting on 17 inch sport rims so that might make it interesting.
