Latest project- Door panel

Mine had gone to the dogs, so I decided to replace the cloth with something else. I went to a local auto upholstery shop, and found some vinyl material that matches pretty well. I tried to get the perforated stuff to match but he didn't have anything close as far as colors.
You can get a perforated leather hide off ebay that would match too, but that was gonna cost a lot more, and I didn't want to wait.
Seller is called "Leatherhut". Lots of colors and styles.
Here's the result of drivers side door. The passenger door didn't come out s well, I trimmed too close, but what the hey, I don't have to see it everytime I get in and out of the car.
You could also just hire somebody to do it, the guy I bought the cloth from said $65 a side labor, ie 1 hour.
For me it made a nice project to take my mind off of...
well just about everything. My psycho jealous GF, the economy...
Obama the Anti-Christ...

and the glue will get your head spinning.. he he...
well, be sure to do the work outside or with lots of ventilation.
And leave it outside to dry; the guy said to use contact cement.
As both sides that need to be glued have cloth backing you have to use it pretty generously, and it takes a couple days to stop off gassing, so as you can see it's sitting outside.
When you peel the cloth back, there's like a spun material thats glued on pretty tight to the plastic panel so I left it. It soaks up the glue like crazy though, so buy the small can not the little bottle.
You'll need some paint brushes too. Dollar store has 3 for a buck.
Driving around without the panel results in contact DOOR OPEN errors,
and you have to turn the interior light off or it'll stay on constantly.
Also new here on the drivers side is the rear speaker grill (like #5 or 6 so far) and the stupid plastic piece that holds the window switches, broken by the body shop I assume that replaced the door.

I paid 10 bucks for enough material for both sides.

Good job, looks good and really can't tell the mess up on the pass door for a distance.

I went back the guy (he's right next to the DVD store)
he mentioned I should not cut it so close, and use a screwdriver to push the edges into the cracks.
The drivers door was also easier since i had the rear speaker grill off. Made it much easier to stuff into the cracks. The front though was not so easy, it doesn't look great, but soooo much better than the old torn, dirty cloth.
You can't unbolt these pieces, they're melted on. Putting the speaker grill on you have to melt the plastic. I use a knife heated on the stove to do it.
The passenger side, you can see the edges, I didn't tuck them, but I'm not redoing it. It takes like 2 or 3 days to dry.
So yer out of work Alex? I been out for a while...trying to figure out wtf to do next.

Help me remember to stay on top of that, hence my seats are still in good shape. Black hides the dirt, but then if you don't maintain the leather, well, it's gonna break down. I use lexol, and sometimes Zymol leather cleaners and conditioner.
