Touchshift Question

Okay, now I understand. If I would have guessed at what you meant last night, I wouldn't have guessed right.
Anyway, that isn't any worse than revving it to redline and then shifting into the next gear. I have heard you say on numerous occasions that you like to floor your car often. So obviously you are taking it to redline. All you are doing here is taking it to redline and then letting off. The reason the acceleration is so good is because you are in the middle of the power band and you are getting all the torque that the car has pushing you forward. Instead of the torque building slowly from a stop, it is there immediately. So it feels much faster.
So to answer your question, no it isn't that bad for the car. Obviously the harder you run it, the faster the engine will wear out, but I wouldn't worry about that. If it is especially hard on anything, I would say maybe the transmission. I'm sure someone else can offer some advice on this, but it may be hard on the transmission to come off the power and then slam it down again.
My car is a stick, and if I am driving a twisty road, I hold the gears and accelerate towards a turn and leave the revs up real high without shifting, then slow down for the turn, and power back out of it. Your touchshift can do essentially the same thing.

I think most people confuses the touchshift with speedshift. From what I know (correct me if i'm wrong thx) The touchshift will only shift to the lowest gear when from the stop. While the car is running you have to tap the lever to bring the gear down. For speedshift, when you hold on to the lever it will automatically downshift to the lowest possible gear for the speed. Both gearbox however will prevent downshift if the engine is running at high rpm.
this is experienced with my own car and my sister's CLK320 with touchshift. this would explain bajaiman's experience with his C200k running at 35 mph. when he held the lever it will only indicate "4" on the dash.

FrankW, I don't think speedshift changes what happens when you hold the lever. You still have touchshift on your car. Speedshift is just the software and I think either one will go to the lowest possible gear if you hold it. This is how I understand it, but I would have to test it to be sure.

I think what 02Impressor is trying to do is almost what i'm doing in first gear, I am going slow and the car is basicly scremaing. Which will only happen in a low gear, unless you are going at very high speeds.

Hey, if your car is leased and you have so much aftermarket mods don't you have to remove all of it IF you decide to return the car and not purchase it at the end of the lease?

Yes, most things you have to remove. But there are probably some things you don't have to worry about. I am not going to remove my window tint when I turn mine in. And unless I want to sell my pulley, I may not bother taking it off. I don't think the inspector will notice this.
If they do notice mods, does anyone know what happens then? Do they just tell you to remove them, or do they try to charge you something?

I know I asked my sales manager once if I had to turn it in with the wheels it came with, and he said yes. I wanted to sell my C7's to get some 18's and I have the stock 16's for winter that I could turn it in with. But he said they would be looking for all the options to make sure they were there.

Ah ok. See, I abuse the **** out of my car too such as flooring it at every green light or making sharp turns. I get the exclamation point in the yellow triangle all the time because I'm always revving the **** out of it and I presume you do too. At the rate I'm going, I don't even think I'll hit 10,000 miles by May (first year anniversary). I leased it for 39 months and got a crazy warranty for x amount of mileages that I won't ever reach. Oh yeah, i personally wash and vacumm it 3 times a week and wipe the rims everyday. But other than going fast, i pamper my cars.:p

I guess for everyone else, they come to your house and check it out. Maybe it depends on who you lease it through, but I think it always gets inspected, especially if you lease through MB credit corp. So yes, you will probably get to see this guy. i hope they dont care about those things, i also am putting the stock exhaust back on, and it will have to be welded, i hope if he looks under the car he wont care about that.

Well, the only thing I wonder about is the black grille. I don't think you'll have any problem at all with the calipers, tint, or exhaust. I guess worst case scenario is that you'll have to buy a replacement grille, but that shouldn't be too expensive. I would leave it go until the inspection though, it might get by.
