"RN-" display?

Hi guys, new to the MBWorld.org forums. I've used the search function but no luck finding info I want so here it goes: I bought a 2005 C230 6spd 3 days ago and love the car. On the bottom digital display in the cluster where it shows either the ambient temperature or the digital speed and the clock, below the clock it says "RN-" and I have no idea what that means. Anyone care to give me an info about it? Thx!

You mean in the area where it has "PRN[D] S"? At the very bottom of the display? Maybe you have a bad display? Never heard of that before. If your car is a manual then you shouldn't have anything down there AFAIK.

Brain fade by the TCU feeding crap to the display - the display itself seems in order?

How strange...
You either have a bad display (doesn't look like its the display, but can't really say for sure) or a bad controller for the display (which would be the gauge cluster itself). I guess it could also be the TCU, but I would expect a problem with the cluster itself to be more likely.

Maybe you'll get lucky and it's just a software issue that will fix itself with a reboot - I would try pulling and replacing all the relevant fuses (for TCU, ECU, and the cluster itself). Obviously you could just pull neg battery cable, but that seems to be a bad idea unless absolutely necessary with these cars, and even then its a much better idea to plug a small 12V battery in parallel when changing the original to prevent any power loss / surge.

+1. I would try & reboot everything. Pulling fuses is a good way
