got a chirp under the hood
hearing a repetitive chirp sound coming from engine bay, best heard at idle in cold conditions, has been in teens to twentes here, have 21k on 06 c350MT also some burning rubber smell at times , maybe my srp belt is slipping???, also have the death rattle lately when turn engine off, any chance i popped an engine mount too and the mobile motor is misaligned w belt at times??? any thoughts, how to ask the mb tech properly to address this issue??? mlg

Check you belt tensions....if you can press on any belt and you get any more flex than the thickness of the belt, it's worn and should be tightened or replaced.

Watch the engine mounts - odd one fails. Damaged engine mount can't cause belt misalignment but could cause the engine to move enough to allow the belt to touch something that it should not. Belt tension is automatic. Check the belt itself for damage & wear. The noise is usually the tensioner pulley itself or the idler pulley. If the belt is chirping due to temperature etc you can give it a spray with belt dressing. Benz does not recommend this but all the American auto makers do. If it was a cambelt I would not do it but it can do no harm on a Poly V accessory belt. Re smell you had better make sure nothing is touching. If the Poly V belt is slipping then its shot.

There's a recall for idler pully for our cars. Take it to dealer. Is it chirping only when car is in motion? Then it's probably one of the metal clip near windshield rubbing agains something. Pop the hood and make sure metal clips are tight or apply some wd-40. Dealer took care of that for me.
