Do you guys mind if I bump an old thread???

This was the only thread I could find that was relative.
Thinking of joining the Mercedes world.

Looking at a C240, 2004, 41,000 miles. It's the smaller "sleepy" (as I've seen it called here) 168hp engine.
It does this exact same thing. This weird little shudder from 1st to 2nd. Otherwise the car is incredible. But the shifting issue makes me nervous. Car is not for sale from a dealer. It is Joe Schmoe car lot. Which makes me more nervous.
Would you avoid a car that has this issue?

Thanks for any help.

The 722.6 transmission fitted to the C240 is a mature unit & should not do this at such low mileage. If the engine & rear transmission mounts are in good condition tell them to change the transmission oil & filter & reflash the software. If it does not improve beware.

The first to second one-way clutch does fail in these transmissions but usually at very high mileage in taxi service & not maintained.

Properly maintained I've seen them at 700,000 Km & still fine.

mercedes c180 Elegance . 1960 p4 rover 80 . 1963 Austin A60 Cambridge . Vauxhall vivaro van
Hi all, I have just found and joined the site. I have a mercedes c180 auto 2002 that has only covered 20,000 miles. I am the second owner and have had the car 2 years.

Around 3 months ago I noticed the gear changes to be a bit jerky and some times there was a clonk when selecting reverse from cold.

Yesterday I used it for a 160 mile round trip (the furthest travelled so far in it) and its developed a vibration at certain speeds and when eccelerating above 50mph

when eccelerating at 50-60mph the car stays in gear but feels as if its going to change up then down (if that makes sense)

Since the trip yesterday the car also jerks into 2nd gear unless I de-celerate as it changes.

I would be grateful for any advice and suggestions .

Thanks Tony

Welcome.

First thing. Has this transmission had a fluid & filter change with an approved fluid? Has the fluid level been checked?

Also check the electrohydraulic bush for leaks where the TCU plugs into the transmission front diagonal RHS.

Does your car have a Valeo radiator? Check fluid for glycol. Valeo radiators are known to leak coolant into the transmission cooler.

I'm glad to see i'm not the only one experiencing this stuff. I've owned the 05 C230 since 08 and it had 26k. I'm at 99k miles now and within the last 1000 miles it has started with the 1-2nd gear jerk but it is very random. it was doing it some last week and then I probably drove 200 miles on it the last few days and then it happened again tonight. It apparently went into limp mode and wouldn't shift to any other gears, nor would the auto manual feature work or would it change from Comfort to Sport. I do notice that after it does jerk, when leave from a stop it almost feels like riding the clutch on a manual and it isn't fully engaged. But then I will shut if off for the night and the next day it acts perfectly normal. Hoping it's not something very expensive!

That certainly doesn't sound good... My 1-2 shift is sloppy sometimes. I, too, bought my car in 2008 with 25k miles and it has 131k now. I've had the fluid changed once at 100k and flushed at 120k. What about you?

I've had all recommended services done. Last service was less than 3k miles ago at the Benz Dealer!

Hey everyone, so basically I have been having similar issues with my car (going on limp mode after fully stopping). So this morning I took it to my local Mercedes Benz Stealership and of course I am one of the "lucky ones that have to have my "Trans Valve Body Electrical Plate Assy" replaced. $1,492.20. LUCKILY, i have only had this car for less then a month since I bought it used at the Jaguar Landrover dealer in my area which came with a Limited 3mo/3K mile warranty (I def plan on getting that extended). So I am fortunate enough to not have to pay those $1500. The service sheet also recommend other maintenance type services so I am going to try to get them to get most of that stuff done on it as well (total of $4,000.39) for free!

So I've had my car for about a year now and it has had this problem the whole time. It is only when the car is cold and after about 10-15 minutes of driving it in the morning it doesn't do it. It is leaning coolant and in the past year I've put two, going on three of the jugs ( I dont know if it's a quart or litter) from Mercedes. How do I check if it's a val whatever radiator hahahah. Is there anyway to peak into the engine bay to check or is it something only the dealer would know. Also what is the most current firmware version as of July 2015. Thanks!!

Check all of your coolant pipes. They crack where the O rings are, and coolant begins to mysteriously disappear. I had the same problem - the leaks only happened when cold. The nastiest pipe is the one behind the back of the engine. It was a slow weep.

Coolant pipe leak

Look below your radiator and see if the inside of the liner panels are covered with puddles of dried white stuff (coolant). I had 3 plastic parts (out of the 4 plastic parts I know of, I assume you have a C230 with M271 engine) fail on me. Replaced all 4 and leak has disappeared.

If I press on the pedal and accelerate fast, this doesn't happen. All other shifts are normal, its only the shift from 1st to 2nd gear when accelerating slowly. Any ideas what might be causing this?

Thanks in advance.
Mine is 180,000 miles auto C220 Cdi

All seemed well BUT when it warms up ... and it seemit on related to engine temperature so it is presumable transmission temperature..

Between 20 -30 mph it judders, kangaroos.. burst of power no power burst none.. every quarter to half of a second,,,

Trailing just over idle on the throttle is OK...slamming the pedal to the rug... usually boosts through it but Normal driving is a nightmare in town!

It has got slightly worse where it persists into the 30-40mph range!

I wouldn't normally use mph as a reference but it doesn't really related to revs..
Although, from what I can do manually.. ie. Overriding the gears, 2nd is the problem..
Unless I am mistaken it has 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5 ,3, 3.5 AND 4TH? Gear?

Making a total of 7?

Anyway., I had a badly sealed injector but after £500 of bodged threads, that is eliminated

The only issue on the Black Box was something about temperature and overboost regards to the turbo?

I am not confident in the Drive shafts state of health and there is a vibing bearing vrrrrrb just before the issue begins?

I am going to have the Trans Fluid flushed and replaced next..

But I am getting nervous.

Other than that it is an absolute beauty of a banger..,,
ii pray someone knows what this is?

Hello

I own a c200 kompressor with same problems: when it’s changing gear from 1st to 2nd I feel like it’s pushing the car forward . I’m thinking to change the pwm valve A2402701700. Should I?
