Strange transmission shift from 1st to 2nd gear
This was the only thread I could find that was relative.
Thinking of joining the Mercedes world.
Looking at a C240, 2004, 41,000 miles. It's the smaller "sleepy" (as I've seen it called here) 168hp engine.
It does this exact same thing. This weird little shudder from 1st to 2nd. Otherwise the car is incredible. But the shifting issue makes me nervous. Car is not for sale from a dealer. It is Joe Schmoe car lot. Which makes me more nervous.
Would you avoid a car that has this issue?
Thanks for any help.

The first to second one-way clutch does fail in these transmissions but usually at very high mileage in taxi service & not maintained.
Properly maintained I've seen them at 700,000 Km & still fine.

Around 3 months ago I noticed the gear changes to be a bit jerky and some times there was a clonk when selecting reverse from cold.
Yesterday I used it for a 160 mile round trip (the furthest travelled so far in it) and its developed a vibration at certain speeds and when eccelerating above 50mph
when eccelerating at 50-60mph the car stays in gear but feels as if its going to change up then down (if that makes sense)
Since the trip yesterday the car also jerks into 2nd gear unless I de-celerate as it changes.
I would be grateful for any advice and suggestions .
Thanks Tony

First thing. Has this transmission had a fluid & filter change with an approved fluid? Has the fluid level been checked?
Also check the electrohydraulic bush for leaks where the TCU plugs into the transmission front diagonal RHS.
Does your car have a Valeo radiator? Check fluid for glycol. Valeo radiators are known to leak coolant into the transmission cooler.

Coolant pipe leak
Look below your radiator and see if the inside of the liner panels are covered with puddles of dried white stuff (coolant). I had 3 plastic parts (out of the 4 plastic parts I know of, I assume you have a C230 with M271 engine) fail on me. Replaced all 4 and leak has disappeared.
I have a 2003 C230 kompressor sedan. I'm having a weird problem with my transmission. Its automatic transmission. If I'm accelerating smoothly, when it shifts from 1st to 2nd gear, the car jerks, like its pushed forward all of a sudden, and then everything goes back to normal. If I press on the pedal and accelerate fast, this doesn't happen. All other shifts are normal, its only the shift from 1st to 2nd gear when accelerating slowly. Any ideas what might be causing this?
Thanks in advance.
All seemed well BUT when it warms up ... and it seemit on related to engine temperature so it is presumable transmission temperature..
Between 20 -30 mph it judders, kangaroos.. burst of power no power burst none.. every quarter to half of a second,,,
Trailing just over idle on the throttle is OK...slamming the pedal to the rug... usually boosts through it but Normal driving is a nightmare in town!
It has got slightly worse where it persists into the 30-40mph range!
I wouldn't normally use mph as a reference but it doesn't really related to revs..
Although, from what I can do manually.. ie. Overriding the gears, 2nd is the problem..
Unless I am mistaken it has 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5 ,3, 3.5 AND 4TH? Gear?
Making a total of 7?
Anyway., I had a badly sealed injector but after £500 of bodged threads, that is eliminated
The only issue on the Black Box was something about temperature and overboost regards to the turbo?
I am not confident in the Drive shafts state of health and there is a vibing bearing vrrrrrb just before the issue begins?
I am going to have the Trans Fluid flushed and replaced next..
But I am getting nervous.
Other than that it is an absolute beauty of a banger..,,
ii pray someone knows what this is?
