i have used filters from MJ in my car. i oiled it myself, it really is hard to put TOO much oil in it.. i was spraying for bout 30 minutes, and it still looked non-oiled. guess some folks just dump the entire can into one filter in one go

white and whiter
family has a 97 528i and it has had the K&N in it since new and now at 160k miles. no K&N related issues and it does give the engine a little boost on high end.
i've also used Green and now BMC in the C32. no issue here either.
those with issues are simply not oiling the K&N properly.

Your MAF sensor is going to get dirty or cause a CEL eventually, whether you are running K&N's or stock. Either way, Pick up some MAF Sensor cleaner and follow the directions on the can. This $7 cleaner has made my CEL go away and saved me $430 (dealer quote to replace MAF). Oh yeah, it also got my buddies F-350 idling and running right too.
Thanks...

I've been running the K&N E-2011 in my m271 for about 50k miles. I never re-oil them, but I've bought new ones from Amazon. I'm having some issues with my car which I don't know if they can be attributed to the K&N's, but I've gone back to stock just to be safe.
They're not worth the risk. They don't give much, if any, improvement over stock. I've just chosen them b/c I got them for $18 off of Amazon when they were on sale.

Every once in a while Amazon has a sale on the K&N's for our cars, you just have to keep looking.
I got the OEM one for $32 from getmercedesparts.com

BMC's are made in Italy and are OEM in Ferrari's and other vehicles. Their fitment and quality is a tad step up from K&N.
I've run the BMC on my M3 and a "Streamline" filter made by Helene Performance which is similar to the K&N, and the BMC was better in my opinion. The fitment was superb.
