Like i said in the previous post I had a 2000 E46 328Ci. All of my friends who has E36 agree that the E46 has much better quality feel to it (both interior and exterior).
yeah, it's true that you won't see many people complaint about quality on the Bimmer boards as you would see them on the MB boards. But from time to time there are complaints.

Intersting observatrion about the air vants etc. I had an e46 loaner for a couple of days and I never noticed a big diff in interior and exterior quality of materials to my e36. To each his own I guess.
EEH,
I'm sorry to hear about all of your initial troubles with your bimmer. Glad that's it's all sorted out though.
Good luck with your MB purchase. The c230k sedan looks to be excellent value for the dollar.

However, I'm totally with you on the poor service from the BMW service department. They're just horrible. Big time attitude, a month in advance to schedule for service, and the best loaner car I got from them is a minivan!

FrankW, I hate to tell you this but every engine manufacturer and auto manufacturer on this planet says that the engine is within operating paramaters as long as it does not burn more than a quart of oil per 1000 miles. This is acceptable and they will not replace or fix the engine if it does not burn more than a quart in 1000 miles. MB even follows this rule.

Sedan motor
Ok, ok. I just checked MBUSA's site and you are correct. The new 230 sport sedan does have the 1.8L motor. Dammmmmm I hate to be wrong and have to admit it here....
I noticed they do have the 2.3 motor in the SLK coupe however....
Feel better knowing they are keeping up to speed with the older engine.
