DIY Fuel Filter Replacement Question

Hello:

In reference to the following link:

https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...placement.html

Is it necessary to relieve the fuel pressure?
What is the purpose?

I have never change MB fuel filter but I have done it on a Honda
and did not bother to relieve the pressure. Ofcourse the car used
carburator, not fuel injector.

Thanks,
Jim

\ You need to relieve for safety reasons. Its a high pressure system... You don't want gas shoot everywhere when you take out the filter.

Here's a little more detailed diy.

I just did this DIY today and it is pretty easy. I would recommend some gloves because even with the pressure released there will still be gas that leaks out. Not much but about 1 1/2 cups worth, so a fair amount. Also purchasing some new hose clamps will make it easier. The hose clamps MB uses will probably need a special tool to put them back on.

The only issue I had was that the CE light came on because the car ran rough for about 10 seconds (just had to get the air out of the gas lines). It smoothed out and I went to the auto parts store to have it removed.

I never released any pressure other than taking the hose off the fuel filter and the gas came out. Its hardley any pressure so long as you let it sit for an hour before doing it. And it took about that long to get my tools and remove that cover etc.

the only 2 things i would say are 1) draing the gas into a pan, about a cup, and 2) make sure you leave the key in the run position for a good minute or 2 before you start the car to get the fuel system charged properly.

Done it three times and have never released the pressure. It is maybe 4 oz of gas that comes out.
