Power from nothing!!
Power from nothing!!
Ok, so I'm not new to the forums but I don't do much posting here... I've been doing some research recently and found out there are little tweaks you guys have been doing for some extra power.
I've seen something with reseting the ECU for better throttle performace, removing the resonator for a little more sound and 1-2hp, the dyno mode(???) etc. How many things are there like this that I can do to get that little extra "UMPH" outta my car.
I have an '07 C230 and was thinking of doing K&N intake, resonator removal and anything else yall might suggest. Any ideas?

2006 C230, 2006 BMW M3, bye bye C55:(
you're not gonna feel much of a difference from doing these and it will basically just be a waste of money. K&N will give you a better engine response, resonator will make it sound terrible(think honda with a can muffler), ecu might get you 20hp but it also is over 800 for the entire program. I would just look into lightening the load on your car and go from there. Carbon fiber some things and replace the rims with lighter ones. Other than that theres not much you can do to the car unless you want to spend big. My buddy has an 07 C230 which he did a stage 4 renntech, supercharger system and he gets 350hp with 389tq. He spent 9 grand on it though.
What about spark plugs? I remember back in the day when I had a civic I replaced them and it was an AMAZING difference... Are people noticing anything from doing that on the c230s?

No REAL power from nothing possible. If you really want a significant power improvement you will have to spend big time & accept the trade off in durability & driveability.
If you're after power the easiest and cheapest way to get it is sell your car and get an C32 or C55. It's not worth to dump all that money into the car to only gain max 30 HP. Exhaust and intake they don't do much for Merc and I highly doubt that a spark plug change will do so as well.
carbonfiberwhor - Renntech doesn't offer a supercharger system for the V6 C230. Where did your buddy get this from? Which Renntech dealer?
Also under the cars you drive you put 2007 C230 Heavily Modded, how is your C230 Heavily Modded? What have you dont to it? Don't tell me supercharger because on your post you said your buddies is supercharged.
Toofman - you can't do much with a C230, I would suggest shopping around for a C32 or a C55.
C32 is AMG V6 Supercharged
C55 is AMG V8 (Naturally Aspirated)
Both are around the same HP.
Edit
Or you can just drive your C230 for a while and rethink if you really want to spend that much money into power.
If you are strictly into power and don't care about gas mileage heck you can get a 03 CL600 (BiTurbo) or 04 E55 (Supercharged) (little over 30 grand)
My friend got a 03 CL600 (32 thousand dollars with 27 thousand miles) they shipped his ECU to Kleemann and once it comes back his car is going to be close to 600 HP and 700 TQ
32 thousand + 4 thousand = 36 thousand = one sick a$$ car.
I can't wait to drive it once it comes back
Good Luck.

There's one problem about the AMG's... I have a manual and really want to keep it. I looked at C350's but they're all automatic; as are the AMG's.. Am I wrong or are they all manual... Any other car ideas?
I've heard there are manual C350s. I read on edmunds.com that they came in manual but I have never seen any. I even went to autotrader.com and did a search with "any miles (distance)" and couldn't find any. I know that the new C350s (W204) they don't come in manual.
I don't know your financial situation but I would keep your car and just drive it and maybe later down the line buy a Mercedes Beast (55, 63, 600, 65).
But the bottom line is honestly it's not worth to dump money into making the c230 faster because for way less you can get a much better C.
Or you can just get an AMG and drive it in manual mode and image you are really driving manual??

You could try removing the maf screen. You'll need to locate your maf and
see whats possible. You want to keep the plastic part on the intake side but the rest including the metal screen is unnecessary.
Also, if you remove the throttle body, there's likely another screen, also can increase power slightly, but you run the risk if something
somehow gets past the air filter and maf, and sucked into the engine there's nothing to catch it.
I pulled mine however, the car has 138K miles, and there wasn't so much a piece of dust in either screen.
It ran rough till the engine adapted to having so little restriction on the intake, took about 5 minutes, then another hundred miles or so for it to really kick in after the computer adapted.
Also, in your case with a stock engine, that has little mods available, a Sprint booster
would be fun to increase throttle response.
It doesn't increase power, but it changes the throttle response so the car feels faster.
Actually people have gotten better times with it since like I said, it increases throttle response.
Mine already responds faster due to everything else I've done, so I passed on that one.
It's not free, but likely the most fun you'll be able to have for $300.
There's a huge thread on that here, so please don't post questions on that here, or people will go ape_stuff.
Personally I'm against K&N filters since they just make a mess of the intake,
but thats also a big argument around here. I clean my MAF regularly with MAF cleaner.

I wish I could get the M3, but I have $19-20k AT BEST that I can get out of my car. I still owe $7k... So I have $12-13k, then I'll have to take out another loan. I would want a vert if I bought an M3 and I'm not seeing any convertibles around $24 that have less than 60,000 miles. I've owned a 3-series and I know what happens when that warranty expires... EVERYTHING!! breaks on those cars. . .

just buy a used 335i manual then. if you can net $12k in equity and apply to a used 335i for around $30k. You only have to pay off $18k which would give you lower payments then what your paying now.
all the other stuff will run you around the same. Except you get twin turbos, a manual and decent handling stock.
