I wouldn't mind swapping my EURO COMAND for a US COMAND - but I'm in Houston. Steve knows me...

...but I'm not willing to pay to swap.

anyone with Euro COMAND

i have few questions:

is this correct:

for the Euro Comand:
so eventhough Steve could make the TV or DVD ON after a brief stop (OFF) at 5mph --> it will turn OFF again at speed above 40 mph?

if so, we can watch the tv or dvd (use the Euro DVD function) only at speed between 5-40 mph?

if I want to put 'reverse camera', will US-spec Comand work or do I have to use Euro-spec Comand?

thajnks

The TV feature on a euro comand will switch off when either one of the following actions trigger the TV safety system:
1) parking brake off
2) shift in gear
3) speed above 5mph

Thos are the three triggers that activate the TV safety warning screen...

A backup camera is only of use on a comand that is reprogrammed to display while in motion...no matter whether it is euro or US spec...although for programming the US spec comand you need a tech that is willing to change it, knows how to do it and has an old version of the stardiagnose software.

watch DVD in motion using EURO COMAND?

guys,

I was wondering whether it IS still possible or NOT to watch DVD while in motion ( greater than 5 mph) using EURO Comand?

If I understand it correctly, I heard that the latest software from MB would not let this to happen...

thanks

From what I have heard it can still be enabled by the techs but they are not likley to oblige you.

Re: watch DVD in motion using EURO comand?

No. The only way to do this is to have it shipped back to Germany to have it reprogrammed.

DVD...it depends on how the DVD is connected to the comand...if it is connected with the help of a TV tuner it will not display anything different then a safety warning while in motion (with the current software version of stardiagnose MB can only get rid of 2 out of 3 safety triggers)...if the DVD is connected with the help of a RGB connector or multimedia adapter (which are both usefull in europe but NOT in the states), watching while in motion IS possible...

I am still trying to get something working for the US to get DVD and/or PS2 connected to comand...it is just a matter of time (which is something I hardly have).

I'm a bit confused....

If using a multimedia adapter such as those for sale on ebay.de and megacomm.de with a EURO COMAND - regardless of whether it is installed in a european car or us car will whatever is plugged into the the adapter play while the car is in motion? Will any reprogramming be needed or is this "plug-n-play"? Also - you say an RGB connector or multimedia adapter. I'm certainly no expert, but my understanding of RGB is that only video (seperated into Red, Green, and Blue signals) is sent through such a connection (i.e., component DVD players, HDTV tuners, some satelite receivers etc.) - how then is audio connected to the COMAND in conjuction with the RGB signal? I'm very interested in putting a EURO COMAND in my 2002 C230K and had assumed that with the megacomm adapter I would be able to also connect a DVD player. What else do I need to know?

Thanks a lot!

If I understand correctly, you can take care of the first two triggers (e-brake and in-gear) without finding the old Star software, correct? (This is for the Euro COMAND unit).

my understanding is that we do still need the older STAR software to make those happen.

with a euro comand and one of the megacomm adapters will video work in motion? do any interlocks need to be removed or is it "plug-n-play"?

i know that the euro comand's display PAL and that we use NTSC in the states, but you can buy DVD players that will convert the signal. will this work? will sound play even if video doesn't? all i'm really interested in is using the DVD player to play MP3s. so all i need is sound... though the visual display would be nice as well.

and... many people have been calling the megacomm adapter an "RGB adapter" on the forum. is it? it would make sense to me that it is instead a COMPOSITE adapter (3 RCA plugs - Red (right audio), White/Black (left audio), Yellow (video) - as standard...but there is nothing specific about any of the cables...they're just coax) - but what is it?! any info would be great. and if it IS an RGB adapter - how do you get the audio in?

thanks everyone....

not yet...

nope - not yet... still deciding between us and euro versions. euro only makes sense for me if it'll do what i want it to do. if not then i'll either just stick with what i've got or pick up a us comand. i'd like to keep a "factory" look to the car - but if i'm gonna be shelling out thousands i'd rather have everything that i want and put in an alpine/pioneer/kenwood/etc system. or, like i say - stick with what i've got and a road map!

Who am I kidding?

Choosing between US and Euro COMAND would be a tough choice for me. First of all, as cool as it would be to have a TV tuner, I doubt I'll shell out the money for it before I sell get rid of the car in 3 or 4 years. (listen to me, I don't even have the car yet ) I like have RDS available, but it's not something that really affects the way the system works. I'm almost tempted to get the US COMAND and have the warranty with it instead of kidding myself about installing an expensive TV tuner. Just a thought...

Both the TV tuner and RGB connectr (which is completely different then the previously mentioned megacomm multimedia connector) work with the EURO and US comand...it is just a matter of having the dealership activate the TV feature in the US comand again (with stardiagnose).

Parking brake and shift/gear triggers can be deletedby any stardiagnose software...the speed related trigger is something that cannot be deleted by the later software anylonger...

I am still trying to get adapters made that do connect per RCA plugs and hat are actually usefull for the US DVD players...but this is timeconsuming and fairly expensive...

can we not just use a PAL/NTSC region-free DVD player with the megacomm adapter? there are many of such DVD players on ebay. a lot of them are also small sized for use in car. and some even come with wiring to be hardwired for car use.

Hey steve,

It seems like you've been gone for a long time. I bet you're ready to go home soon.

Any chance your flight might make a quick stop in Chicago?
