Exclamation Seafoam on m271 engine

Sup guys,

I was planning on seafoaming my car and so I was searching the forums for where the manifold vacuum line is on a m271 engine. I have not found the answer yet so I would appreciate ur guys' guidance on this. If you guys have a picture of it, that would be perfect!

But before that, wanted to find out what you guys even thinking about seafoaming the car. I was reading through the forum and one guy said that he would not use seafoam what so ever (seemed pretty adamant about it). So now i am doubitng myself whether i should be using the product or not. Everywhere else on the net however, the product has gotten good reveiws... what's ur guys' thoughts?

aprreciate your help!

its more popular on the honda forums, from what i hear its a hit or miss. Some people swear by, others have used it and actually lost power because the carbon build was actually keeping the compression on older engines with deteriorated engine seals.

I think its one of those things where the potential risk outweighs the benefits. i would just use fuel injector cleaner like techron or something instead.

yeah, i just put the seafoam through the gas tank...like a fuel injector.

its a PITA to remove the airbox to get the vacuum line. Next time ima just get the fuel injectors.

I have used a product from BG. Its called 44K. BG is available through many dealers, but not your local parts store.

I put techron concentrate through the gas tank (2 bottles in 2 consecutive tanks about 2 months after I bought the car) and I noticed a good 1.5-2 mpg increase on the dash display for the same commute.

When I had a '98 Isuzu Rodeo, (as recommended but many guys on some forums) to use SeaFoam in combination with Chevron Techron cleaner and it worked wonders on a notoriously carbon deposit laying engine. However, that SeaFoam is some strong stuff and I'd agree that you'd be better off sticking with just the Techron and using it periodically. You don't want to risk damaging your seals, etc. I view SeaFoam and most cleaners more of a cheap fix / restorer than a preventative measure.

I agree with the above posts, to stick with Techron or BG44k (very good stuff). Based on past experience of using it as an experiment, Seafoam is very abrasive and can really eat away at the valve seals and other critical parts in some circumstances. Not sure I would try something this agressive on my MB motor.

SEAFOAM or BG44K

I have 30k on my 2003 c230 and just incountered carbon deposits left on my exhaust valves. my compression was 150, 120, 145, 150. I am finaly realalizing that this engine has lots of problems. I just put Seafoam in my car a couple of days ago, and it helped. I am now convinced to use this or BG44k at every oil change or at least 2to 3times a year, until have to fix head. TKS to Buellwinkle about learning about problems with m271 engine cylinder head problems and poor design that causes exhaust LEAKS. I highly recommend to use!!!!

whats it suppose to be? i know on hondas its suppose to be 170. That 120 is really bad...there shouldn't be more then a difference of 10 between the cyclinders.

2nd Compression Test after seafoam and BG44k

YEhaaaaaa!!!! My compression is now #1 , 155 , #2 150, #3 155, #150.. My best guess on what it should be around 150 +/- 10. I am now a FIRM beliver that these products work and will help our bad design M271 engines. I used seafoam for one week, then used BG44k the next week. Seafoam is about $ 9.00 , BG44K is around $20-30 dollars, alot more stronger which I think worked better.

I highly recommend anyone with this M271 engine 2003-2007 c230 to use a can in gas tank at every oil change if possible or every 2 oil changes , around every
10k miles..

Cheers and every1 gl

Yes it works great. I use one can of 44k every 6,500 miles (I split my oil service intervals and change twice between major services) and it works great. Cylinder pressure is always 150+ and no leak problems. This stuff really works for the M271 motor Glad you like it as much as I do. $ well spent!

Great! Nothing like a test result to confirm a fix. This may be one of the things that save the m271! It would be nice if anyone had a before and after compression results for just Sea Foam or just BG44K. If you're having reduced power and rough running with the m271 and the vacuum lines are OK it would be wise to get a compression check and proceed with trying to correct it with one of these products. I've never been a fan of 'liquid tune ups' but you can't disagree with measured results. It will be interesting if more people get the same results.

If you can get it for $16 a can on the link provided above, go for it. Good price, as most cans of BG 44K range from $18-24+ a piece.

Might also check on ebay motors. Once in a while some of their vendors have good package deals on multiple cans and some offer free shipping as well.

Got a four pack last winter for less than $17 a can and free shipping plus they threw in a can of C5 and MOA, other great BG products as freebies. Good deal

what are your guys' opinions of damage to the seals, etc over the long term?

seems to me, if you don't have issues with compression (or compression is restored after its use) its not worth the risk to use it (or continue to use it).

nice!

can you list the steps of how you used the seafoam? was it 1/3 in the combustion chamber, 1/3 added to the oil, and 1/3 added to the fuel tank? details, please! the compression on ours is pretty much the same as yours before except the low cylinder is #4...

I just waited till 1/4 tank off gas and put the whole bottle of seafoam or BG44K in gas tank. I just wanted to resolve carbon deposit on valves.

**STEAM CLEAN CYLINDER HEADS DIY**
BE CAREFUL HANDLING THE AIR MASS SENSOR THE THING THAT GET PLUGGED IN AFTER THE AIRBOX ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE V-6 CLK320. I WOULD GO FOR ABOUT AN HOUR TRIP GET UP TO A HIGH OPERATING TEMP. AND BUY A SPRAY BOTTLE AT THE DOLLAR STORE.. FILL IT WITH WARM WATER, MAKE SURE IT COMES OUT LIKE A SORT OF MIST. THEN TAKE OFF THE MAF( MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR ) AND HAVE SOMEONE REV YOUR CAR AFTER THE TRIP AND ITS OVER 85 DEGREE OPERATING TEMP//.

REV TO 2-3 RMP FOR 8-10 SECONDS WHILE SPRAYING A LIGHT MIST INTO THE AIR DUCT PIPE.

THEN LET OFF AND QUIT SPRAYING.. AND RESUME FOR ANOTHER 8- 10 SECONDS... CONTINUE TO SPRAY A FEW TIMES, AND THIS WITH STEAM CLEAN YOUR COMBUSTION CHAMBER CYLINDERS.

I REPEAT CAREFUL WITH THE MAF SENSOR I BROKE MINE BY JUST PRESSING IT TO GO BACK IN ITS PLACE.... HAD TO GET A USED ONE AT BONEYARD FOR $70 NOT COOL.... WHAT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A FREE DIY THAT CLEARS CARBON COST ME BIG BUCKS..... ITS STILL WORTH IT TO ME... I HAD A MIS FIRE ON CYLINDER 5... NOT SURE IF IT WORKED ALL THE WAY IM THINKING I MIGHT NEED A NEW COIL PACK. I STRIPPED THE TORX BIT SO I COULDNT SWITCH THEM AROUND TO SEE... I HAVE BG44K ON THE WAY SO IM GOING TO GET MY ENGINE SUPER HOT AND ADD IT AS WELL...

Seafoam love

Just take out brake booster plug. SLOWLY pour in about 1/3 to 1/2 seafoam in the line, the vacuum will suck it right up. If your car dies or misfires it's just because you put in the seafoam too quickly. Let sit for at least an hour. Start up and you will see huge cloud of smoke. This is normal. Avoid residential areas because people will complain. Drive it like you stole it, being aware that traffic behind you will be smoke screened. You may get check engine light and engine stumbling. When I do seafoam I almost always change plugs, since the get corroded with the seafoam treatment. Good luck and enjoy the extra power!!
