New system, bigger alternator?
Hi all,
I just installed an AVIC F90BT in my 07 c230. I also installed an Infinity REF1211A reference series amp to power my phoenix gold titanium 12d Elite subwoofer. Now the infinity amp is supposed to be 1300 watts rms into 2ohms but realistically it is probably only doing a thousand. But my headlights dim noticeably when i have it hitting. I am wondering if anybody knows the amp rating of the stock alternator and if there is a larger one made.
The infinity amp is just a quick fix until i can find the amp i want either the rsd1200.1 or a xenon 1200.1
BTW the PG Ti 12D Elite subs crush. I had a box custom built for it 2.6ft^3 28hz and it destroys the lows.

I very much doubt you need a bigger alternator - you might need a second battery if you want long playing times without charging & to damp those draw spikes - The amp is class D so it's not power hungry & might achieve > 300 watts RMS into 8 ohms at relatively low current. Current capability & power draw specs are not quoted as usual. It's just fine for sub applications. Don't use class D for midrange & treble - they suck - but are perfect for bass.

Can you show me this 100 amp draw? what rating power cable does it have? If it draws 100 amps it would be in short bursts on dynamic program material. If it draws 100 amps consistently it would flatten the battery in 1 hour. It would also burn out.

just a general rule of thumb class d power 1 amp per 10 watts. I have know people who pushed well over 1500 watts rms to this sub with no problems. i listen to rap with excessive bass lines consistently.
