6 disc CD changer in glove box
I have 2 questions, is the 6 disc CD changer compatible with all w203 models? And how do you remove it and keep the radio working? When I unplug the wire the radio goes out. I am going to take it out and sell it separately. Thanks.

Hey Woody, not 100% sure on the compatability of the CD changer for all years. There is a difference between 01-04 model year and 05 on model years on the fiber connectivity styles. The sat radio modules are different so i would suspect the CD is different as well. i know the sat radio unit use a different 12V wake up and different fiber connectors.
The 01-04's use a D2b fiber ring and the 05 on use a MOST style fiber ring.
The head unit, cd changer, phone, sat radio, etc are all confgured on a fiber ring. The ring has to be a closed loop, so if you unplug your CD, the ring is not closed any longer. To take the CD out of the loop, you will need to pull away your carpet on the transmission hump (passenger side where it meets the bottom edge of the center console) and reconfigure the fiber ring. If you get to this point and it is as clear as mud... send me a PM and i can dig-up a site that goes over reconfguring the fiber ring. I have it saved somehwere.....Good luck on it, Greg

I believe that the compatibility is almost universal for the benzes that had the option. I know they tried to keep the parts pretty interchangeable. The magazine, for instance, is the same in my '99 CLK, my '01 C240, my '07 C230, and my '07 SL550, not to mention the 2000 C230 my step-dad had. Even thought the changers themselves look different, they still are wired the same.
Edit: Strike that. Maybe they're not wired the same. The SL i have has the command system and uses the same changer as my '07 C, which, I thought, had the same changer as my '01. I could be mistaken though.

Is it possible to move the CD changer somewhere else beside the glove box? I was planning on moving it underneath the seat or maybe even in the trunk.

I thought the great thing about the C-class when it first came out was that the CD changer was not in the trunk

I suppose you could move it. You'd have to wire power, and obtain a longer D2B fiber cable. They are mounted in the trunk in an SLK, so you could probably use the cable from one of those.
