C-class Coupe
Hi guys, Can any body tell me what engines and transmissions the C coupe W203 came with?
I know one was a 2.3 liter Kompressor motor with a 6 speed, would that be the one to get?
Thanks YM

IMHO, yup.
That would be the one. 2002 w/2.3L.
You can add an ASP pulley and you got 220+ HP.
Do a search on that.
Find one with leather if you can.
And the 'sport' package which has subtle differences including
a short throw shifter for the 6 speed.
Look for nubs on the steering wheel and 17"
wheels stock.
2003 + come with 1.8L and 3.2L.
If you go with a 1.8 find a 2005 which is 'facelifted' styling, but hard to find one with a 6 speed.

Thanks for the info, and that cobalt blue is nice!

It's Orion Blue, btw - the best Benz color, of course.

Ok now this is getting interesting, has anyone put a C32AMG V6 Komperssor engine with the 6 speed in the C320 coupe?\
Thanks Tommy

Anyway, for the investment that your suggestion would entail, an M3 would probably make more sense, all things considered.

But he spent like 15 grand getting it to work properly.
If you go with a 2002, do a little searching.
3 big issues you need to search on and be absolutely sure the car doesn't have.
1. Leaking cam seal M111 (that the engine designation vs. M271 which is the 1.8L) and oil in the electrical harness (which is avoided by installing updated sensor and a pigtail harness) and just causes havoc.
2. Dreaded Valeo radiator which leaks coolant into the tranny and kills the
tranny.
https://mbworld.org/forums/2254029-post59.html
3. Oring seal on the tranny leaks fluid into harness and foobs the
tranny computer.

Most other stuff would be the normal pre-buyer checklist type of stuff,
but most mechanics wouldn't know to look for the above things unless you tell them to.
If you go for a 2002, like I said be sure to get one with the "C7" sport package.
Aside from the nubs on the wheel I mentioned and short throw shifter, they also come with
silver rubber nubbed foot pedals, and a nicer shift knob, + resonator deleted from the factory,
+ nicer door sills, AND probably the easiest thing to spot is the door handles are the
same color as the body, whereas normally they flat black plastic.
Also there's a chrome tail pipe cover.
It came with 17" wheels too.
A popular mod is to replace the door knobs on non- C7.
and additionally another odd thing with C7 package is that
the E-brake pedal is just plain black rubber, but easily replaced with one with nubs from a later model or an SL for like 10 bucks.
So there you go...they do come up...keep your eyes peeled for a 2002 w/ 6 speed, sport package and leather minimum!!!
Easily well under 10 grand!

There's a nice black 2002 w/ C7 but no leather but has upgraded from brakes (someone from here?) http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/02-ME...ayphotohosting
and a nice red one fully loaded but with Auto on ebay right now,

both w/ C7.

white and whiter
you can also get pulley kits for the M271 1.8L and the 1.8L will react better to ECU tuning. I mean people argue that the M111k is easier to mod, but so is the 1.8. we just don't see that many people willing to spent the money on it because there isn't a cheap pulley kit for the M271k from ASP like the M111k.
personally I'm always in favorite of the newer generation engines.
