M271 SPARK PLUG
hi guys I have been reading on the forums that people have been using Iridium IK20 for the M271 C230 car. This is a 19mm reach spark plug. The factory spark plug reach is 26.5mm plug. Meaning if you are using the IK20 for your car, the spark plug tip or electrode isnt even coming to the surface of cylinder head. Combustion is taking place inside the spark plug tube, and threads. Less combustion , less power, more carbon depoisits. , and might mess up the threads in cylinder head where the correct reach spark plug goes. If you want to use Denso , for the M271 car. You need to buy the IKH420. Everythig is the same except the the legnth or reach is the correct size , which is 26.5mm.
Please check you factory Bosch spark plug length vs. The IK20. The IK20 is shorter. Also Most websites or companies are listing this for our M271. It is wrong. If want to use Denso Iridium , buy IKH20
Now Iridium vs gold , copper , and silver. If you look up the Thermal Conductivity and Electrical Conductivity of the Iridium , copper and silver. here is a chart.

The reason why most car factorys are using Platinum is because the metal tip is stronger. Meaning it will last longer than regular spark plugs. Platinum is good up to 100k miles, I am guessing Iridium around 75k-90k. But If you are like me and change my plugs every 30k miles, I would choose the Silver Spark plugs.!! Best performance and cost is about the same. Around 10.00 each.
Have you ever heard or Iriduim connectors for Sound Systems. LOL no!!!
Sound systems use Gold and Silver connectors and wires . Why because of the chart above. If you are instersted in buying silver plugs for your M271 car or any other car you can buy online directly from Nology Engineering , PART Number is ER4YS. Make sure to check gap or regap new plugs . Factory is .032 I gapped mine to .035 with no problems . I hope this helps
