Rims, Rims, Rims???

Hi all,

I recently bought a 2002 C230 coupe. More details here --> https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...noob-c230.html

As stated in that thread, I have a bent rim, which has caused a bumpy tire which in turn gives the rear seat passeger a fairly bumpy ride. So Im looking to upgrade my rims and tires. The ones I have on now are the stock MB rims that came with the car.

So any suggestions on where I should start looking for some sexy steel rims?

Do black rims go well with black cars or is that too Honda Civic'ish?

Whats the maximum size rim I can put on the 2002 C230 Coupe with enough allowance for the weight of 5 people pushing down on the car?

I live in Ottawa/Toronto, Canada and needless to say, we see a lot of snow! Should that influence the type of rim I choose?

Thanks for any advice guys.

Well, I dont know if they are called 'steel rims' but Im looking for the ones which arent the faded aluminum color. ie...they are shiny like steel.

Are they actually steel rims?

check out "eurotech wheels" on Ebay. they are very cheap and sometimes there are good looking ones. they are replicas with good quality for the money.

I dont think they have steelies tho.

if youre driving in snow, i think you should invest in more durable wheels.

think about your :
budget
size 17,18,19
style mesh, 5spokes, multi spokes
color chrome, black, silver, gun metal
with or without lip, staggered or not

and search https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...re-thread.html & https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...want-know.html looking for wheels you will like. & https://mbworld.org/forums/wheels-tires-97/

my opinion on black wheels is that they look nice only if you have other mods...

Just get a set of 18 inch any amg replica because they're fairly inexpensive. You can never go wrong with the looks of amg wheels on a coupe, at least thats what I think. Oh and with the money saved you could also drop it a little bit.

Thanks for the links HellsAngel.

In terms of size, if I go with 19", am I asking for trouble with the wheel getting too close to the body? If not, Il probably go with a 19, if not 18.
Im defintiely looking at 5 spoke, chrome.

Now, what is lip and staggered? Im an absolute noob to cars in general and have no idea what those terms mean.

Thanks.

Hey Petey,

Where can I find AMG replicas? Flea Bay?

What does 'dropping it' mean? LOL.

Yeah you could probably find some on ebay if you searched Mercedes Wheels and just looked for a set that is a replica. Or try Tirerack.com that sells ASA Sport Edition wheels that look like AMG's. And then there is always TSW Bremma's which are really nice. You just have to look around and search the aftermarket wheel thread, theres alot of different looks on there with different OEM wheels and replicas. Oh and dropping it means to lower the car. And staggered means to have a wider width wheel in the back then in the front. Gives it a more aggressive look when looking at your car from behind too.

You can take a look at Forgestar wheels (www.forgestar.com). Good quality and lightweight. I am thinking about getting a set for my car. They are custom wheels so you don't have to worry about fitments...plus price is good!

Hey guys, I have a few more questions:

What does "lip" mean?
Is 19" pushing it for the W203? Is there a chance of the wheels ever touching the body?

Thanks guys.

some guys have 19 + lowering springs.. so i guess you wont have a problem... but it depends on your location & driving style & if your planning to add some 100 kg sound system, or if you ride all the time with 4 adults in the car....

19" are fine. I have 19" with stock suspension and also "for the record" in the rear I have ET38 without spacers.

I have 19x8.5 in front and 19x9.5 in the front. I think pushing it will be over 19x10 (19x10 is cool) I have seen them with 20' as well

Lip is the dish.
Here is a pic

I do plan on putting in some woofers and I would like the car to be able to carry 4 adults without any problems.

Guess Ill be sticking to 18's. Thats still a big improvement over my current stock 16's.

So just to clarify, the wheel has lip when the spokes are at a different depth compared to the wheel surface?

Thanks.
