Stiff gas pedal, normal?
I just purchased an 05 c230 sport. This is my first Merc. I noticed how stiff the gas pedal is when driving. I dont want to sound like a sissy, but my foot actually gets tired on my 1 hour+ drive to and from work with lots of traffic. Is this normal? Is there a way to adjust it?
Thanks all, great board!

Sorry man, I wish that I could help you there but I have no idea. I would start by removing the electrical connection from the pedal and unbolting it (being very careful all along the way) and then see if there is anything that stands out as being wrong. Look for a worn bushing, dirt, etc. I'm sure there is some kind of MB proprietary grease that you should use or it will melt in your hands or something

The pedal uses a specially designed piece of plastic to create the resistance and spring action.
There is 1 pin that rotates and is a friction point, but I do not believe it is ever lubricated. If you take a look at the pedal and realize how it works, you should be able to feel if that pin is somehow getting jammed up (I really doubt it). Otherwise buying a new genuine MB pedal cover would include a new plastic "spring". Maybe the one that came with your car was manufactured out of spec? I know my foot does not get tired, so it sounds like something is wrong.

I hate to drag this back up but I've been on vacation. You say you just purchased your car? When I purchased mine the first few days I developed foot fatigue, too. It wasn't from a stiffness so much as from a you-really-have-to-press-this-hard-to-get-any-response sort of thing.
Apparently whoever owned my car last drove it like an old lady (25k miles in 4 years) and it had "learned" this behavior. I did a throttle reset (STFF for instructions) and the car learned my behavior and viola, problem solved. You can probably do the same.

I had the same feeling when I first bought my car, I always pressed on the bottom of the gas pedal in my other cars and in this car because of the design I was pressing on that plastic piece and it made the pedal hard to push down. Make sure you're pressing on the top of the pedal.

Yeah, make sure you aren't pinning your right heel to the gas pedal. My foot used to get tired too. Now I rest my heel on the floor between the gas and brake pedals. I can easily go 10+h without fatigue now.

Thanks for everyones reply. I agree its probably my foot position. I am used to pushing the lower part of the gas pedal where I should be pushing nearer to the top in this car. I did a search for STFF but only found headlight info. Do you mean the ECU Adaptive Transmission reset or is this something different?

Okay I meant search for throttle reset but it's okay because you at least tried. Here are the instructions:
Put the key in the ignition and turn it to ON (but don't start the engine).
Press the gas pedal to the floor and hold it for 5 seconds.
Turn the key to the off position while still holding the pedal.
Release pedal.
Wait 2 minutes (some say this is not necessary)
See if this helps and let us know.

Don't forget cruise control..you can drive the car with it, without ever touching the gas pedal.
On long trips thats what I do, and the computer knows how to get better mileage that I can.
AND I don't accidently drive too fast and get a ticket.
I have at time, just been tooling a long when woa...I'm doing like 90-100 and don't even know it...
the car wants to run at 120 all day long.
