help changing oem xenon bulb
I have 05 c230 with oem xenons. My right lamp started to flicker on and off. Starting this week, the right lamp is noticeably dimmer -- almost different brownish color. Sometimes, it turns completely off completely.
I am assuming I should change the bulb with the OEM Philips D2S bulb. Is this a reasonable DIY project? Also, does Philips make different model D2S bulbs?
Thanks.

it's fairly simple to replace the D2S bulb. Just like any other bulb except the socket is a little more elaborate. Nothing to be scared of.
Philips does make several kinds of D2S HID bulbs. The ones that match the OEM bulb is model 85122+

My oems were 85122, not 85122+ (There is a difference of 300k between the two).
You should take out the bulb and check to see if the connector is corroded. I noticed mine was heavily corroded when I changed my bulb after it burnt out.
Be careful when changing the bulb as the high voltage delivered to the bulb could hurt you. Just make sure your car is turned off (keys out of the ignition) and you should be fine.

one of my lights is doing the exact same thing. the color is way off then it was a few weeks ago and it blinks on and off and sometimes goes out completely then a few seconds later fires again. I switched the bulbs to see if it was a ballast or igniter problem but the problem moved with the bulb. Have you switched the bulb to the other side that can help with the diagnostic? Good luck with your problem soon you will be ing at night carefree again.

This appears to be a good deal on Ebay. I paid $79.99 (including shipping) for a pair of D2R's a few months back.

(The 85122+ are $95 per pair)

My right one went out. I am planning to replace both to make sure color matches.
I heard the 85122 changes color over time but has the nice blue hue.
The 85122+ does not change color over time and is slightly brighter. But does not have the blue hue, making it look similar to regular halogen. Not sure if this is actually true.
Also, for 2005 c230, I think it is D2S, not D2R 85122.
