By the way, since it's related, my cluster is at BBA Remanufacturing right now, to try to get it fixed for a resonable amount. I'll post again when I know the final outcome.

You didn't just watch "Minority Report", did you?

I'm not sure how you can join a bandwagon that you don't have the problem on, but you can definitely enjoy whatever (if any) benefits come out of this when the time comes for yours to disappear.

I just talked to BBA about my cluster; they can't find the problem. I had hope that they would, since when I talked to a tech before I sent it in, he said that they are aware of the problem, and have fixed it before.

Anyway, they're going to give it one more try before sending it out today. The tech working on it thinks that it may be a problem from somewhere else in the car, which makes me think this guy there doesn't know what he is doing, obviously.

I'll update again when I know more. But looks like I will have to deal with it or pony up the bucks to replace it and recode.

Another bump/update.

I'm a bit behind on things, as I've been moving, but we're still moving on this. Thanks for all of those that have signed up. I'll be sending an email out soon to confirm you're on the list. Once again:

2002 c320
I have this problem as well on a 2002 C320, but so far only when it is very hot > 90 degrees F and the car has been sitting in the sun. Once the car has cooled off the display functions fine. Is the problem limited to the heat or is this a precursor to complete failure?

THE C350
i dont think they fail often just fade in the heat really bad. mine is really bad during the day but as soon as the sun goes down and it is cool it is perfect. that is why the tech seemed to never be able to replicate the problem.

Just to update this, BBA in the end couldn't fix jacksh*t, so I paid the $35 testing fee, and got the cluster back in exactly the same condition as I left it. I wouldn't recommend anyone else send their cluster to them.

As an added bonus, since I was going in and out while the car was parked, installing my new armrest, the car died (domelights, I'd assume). Roadside Asstance was there in 75 minutes, jumpstarted my car, and everything's back to normal. I was surprised at how quickly they responded.

Display, Display, Display... Who needs one anyway?

I do. I'm in. email sent. 2002 C240, 57k miles. Thanks for your effort on this STLcoupe.

On a side note, I have other failures that seem to happen only when the temp outside gets hot, but work well when its not. Example, power window switches. One touch up and one touch down stops working in the heat, but never for the same window and never for the same direction. One day it can stop working for the left rear to go up, the next its the right rear to go down. But this is only when it's hot out. Oh, and yes I put my windows down in the cold too, so it's not just because I only mess with my windows in warm weather.

Just curious, anyone else with a similar issue? Is this class action #2 or just my MB?

Just an update:

still compiling names and drafting a first letter. Things have been a bit busy on my end (moving, etc.) but we'll get rolling on this.

In related news I figured out what was wrong with my vintage Harton/Harris custom-illuminated sills and I hardwired my Passport 8500 to the rear fusebox thanks to Tommy's instructions.

Huge thanks to this board for the wealth of info presented.

Boy, that's a blast from the past! That's cool that they're still operational. I went through two sets of Brabus sills before giving up on them - I think it was wintertime ice and the overall sh*tty design overall that marked both sets for death.

I've now got a couple of other issues, too. To the right of the "F" in the temp display, I now have what looks like another degree symbol as well. Not to mention that the minutes of the clock display flicker most of the time now. Anyone else also having problems with stuff other than the overall fading issue?
