About the cracked buttons, are you sure the invoice doesn't say that they had to R&R (Remove and Replace) the airbag? I could understand if they had to remove it to get to the buttons, but it seems odd that they would be attached to the airbag, or that it would need to be replaced. That would be very expensive for MB.

when my buttons cracked and they ordered whatever part they needed to fix them, the part that was shipped was labeled as the airbag. so apparently it's all one unit. i was surprised too when the service department called me and told me that my airbag replacement part was in, and yes they knew that all i wanted to replace was the buttons.

Ordered cars are usually negotiated for the same or better price than "in stock" from my experience. I don't think you'll get anything off, but I guess you can try. Ordering a car to your specs itself doesn't imply "special order" -- they do it all the time. You would get a special order surcharge if you choose certain paint colors or interior combinations that are not considered standard production... then there is a surcharge of ~$1200 and is listed as a separate item on the invoice.

This is what the guy told me...he said if it was a car that they had in the lot or at some other dealer, the most he could give me off the price would be $500 but since he had to put not a special order but an order in for the car that he could not give me any money off. Well, since they didn't have to order one and they are just getting it from another dealer, I want the $500 off the price.

Chrissy, I'm having a hard time understanding why you'd be able to get $500 off, to tell you the truth. You're not saving MB any costs at all, so I don't see what kind of savings they can pass along to you.

Unless you're just trying to play hardball with the dealer?

Are you going to keep the cloth? It's a very nice material, but I couldn't deal with the pattern after a while. Hope your results are different.

I'm not trying to play hardball with the dealer, it's just that's what he told me that he could give me off the car if he didn't have to order one. Now that he doesn't have to order one, I'd like what he told me he could do.

Although, the way I understand it is that if a car is intended for another dealer, then they have to give that other dealer something in exchange for it (which I think they usually do by trading an allocation). So by finding you a car early, your dealer has to give something up for it, which is why it wouldn't surprise me if he wasn't willing to make the same deal as taking one from his stock.

i say just go find the place where the car is and then buy it from that dealership. then you can negotiate all you want.

They should give you more off if they order or dealer trade it, since the car does not have to be floorplanned the dealer actually makes more money off you. See they never have to make a payment to the bank that does there floorplan. I got $1200 off MSRP and that was for ordered or not. Since dealer trade incurred no floor plan expense they still made a good deal of money. They make %3 of MSRP for Holdback as well as the %7 markup. So they would have made $2300 plus $1000 holdback off my sale, but they discounted $1200 so they only made a hair over $2000. Still more than enough for my dealer and salesperson to survive.

actually you can try carsdirect.com and get

dealer to match the $2800 discount (use zip code 94122) that you can get on carsdirect.com. you can get the car shipped to you from anywhere and still save money if you have to pay $500 shipping. I think $500 off MSRP is a really poor deal on the C230K.
