Just bought a COMAND unit
I've tried searching the forums and I haven't been able to find the diagram in a thread I once saw for installing the original COMAND in 2004.5 C class. If someone knows the thread can you please provide me the link to it? Also can you let me know what parts I need to retrofit the COMAND since it did not come with any wires. Basically I need a little more understanding of the C-1 C-2 connectors and things like that. If someone can just find me the threads with all the info if they do not want to post in here, I'd appreciate it. Thanks guys.

My understanding is that all I need to buy from the dealer is the C1/C2 connectors and the antenna. Does anyone have the part numbers for these?

Pretty much plug and play if you have the MOST system on the 2004.5+ cars. You will need a GPS antenna for the COMAND for the navigation and of course a MB Navigation DVD. New discs are expensive from the dealer; you may try to find a DVD on ebay but beware-you may run into issues if it is not a read MB DVD.
On the search there are posts on how to install the COMAND and the antenna. Earlier models of the C230 you had to do some other wiring things, but not on the later cars.

this applies only to the D2B http://www.buellwinkle.com/Comand/COMANDWIS.pdf
since yours is a 2004.5, I'm not sure if the connector behind it is the same. you can read it regardless.

You don't need anything but the unit itself and the GPS antenna. Everything else is plug and play for 2005+.
Search the forum for how to take apart the center console or remove your headunit. Its also linked in the sticky at the top.

My car is a 2005 model built in April 2004 and it is the new style (2004.5+) and I have put the COMAND in with no issues as posted above.

2004.5 means it's a 2004 with the suspension, 4-piston caliper up front, 5-spoke wheel upgrade while the interior and bodykit is unchanged.

I'm still not absolutely clear on this. I just have the COMAND unit...What parts should I purchase from the dealership?

Just the GPS antenna, the part number should be floating around in the threads somewhere. If not, I will try to find it in my receipts.

definitely the antenna.
and depends on what the wires look like when you take out the tape deck. basically for cars that had D2B with the tape deck there were one connector for everything, so when you do the Comand...you need to split that into a C1 and C2 connector. not hard once you figure out which wire is for which.
the PDF shows only the C1 and C2. there's another one somewhere that shows which is which on the regular connector and all you do is match the wires to the proper location on the C1 and C2. but again this depends on what the back of your tape deck connector looks like.

Pretty good information here for Comand 2.0 stuff, including making the adapter cable. http://www.mercupgrades.com/COMAND+R...article-1.html

The part number in this thread, 203 820 09 75, is that the one for the TV antenna or are they talking about the GPS antenna?

Frank lets just suppose that I do have the single connector in my old radio. I'm pretty sure thats how it is going to be since I have a cassette player. What I need to buy is a GPS antenna and C1 and C2 connectors, right? And then with those two connectors I match up the wires from the single connector harness that use to be pluged into the radio, right? Then I plug in the GPS antenna and hide it away somewhere in the dash and place the comand into the center counsel, right?

Do I just cut the wires from the original connectors on the original harness and hook them up to the reverse side of the C1/C2 connectors and then plug them into the back of the COMAND?

IF you have the Comand 2.0 for the D2B fiber ring, you can cut and make the connections, OR you can order an adapter from several places such as AudioComp in Germany. (They also have replacement knobs for Comand units).
One good source is from MB itself. The adapter goes from the C connector to the C1 and C2 connectors for the ML Class (163) models. The part number for that adapter is listed on the link above. They also have directions for making the adapter yourself, along with the part numbers for all of the connectors, however, when I did this the only way I could get the C connector was to use the 163 adapter (you still have to add pins and wires to it, but all the connections you need to make are listed).

Is this an wiring loom adapter that is plug and play? If I buy this would i just bypass all of the wire cutting and adding pins and just plug this into the back of the comand and then into the already installed d2b wire harness connected to my radio?
