W203 Facelift

I've heard of a facelift planned for the C-class towards the end of 2003 while others have said 04 or 05. Anyone have any info about the date or details?

Thanks.

It will probably happen soon, but I'm sure it will be pretty minor, just something to freshen it up a bit and try to increase sales.

I've read that the new (CL204?) coupe is due in 2005 and the new sedan (W204?) is due in 2006.

A new coupe two years before the sedan? They must really want to change this design. 2006 sounds about right for a new C. I haven't heard anything official, but I just figure that somewhere around 2004, they will probably make some small styling changes on the C, kinda like they did with the S this year.

Sorry, my lousy typing strikes again. That should be 2005 for the coupe. I'll go fix it.

Just in time for the new Mustang. Hmmm, I'll have to think about that. Free car washes vs. a more reliable car!

My girlfriend would laugh if she read that! According to her, "reliable" and "Mustang" don't belong in the same sentence. Her 2002 'Stang is one more breakdown away from being a lemon buyback. It's been in the shop EIGHT times for window regulator malfunctions in both doors, clunking noises from the A/C flaps, rattles behind the instrument cluster, failing to start several times, peeling weatherstripping, etc. The best was when she found out the cruise control didn't work. She took it into the dealer, where they found that the only part of the cruise that was installed in the car were the buttons on the steering wheel, the factory simply "forgot" to put all the other cruise control components in the car! They reimbursed her the 800 bucks or whatever for the cruise option, but it's still a big POS.

I had the last good Mustang, 1971 Mach 1, BOSS 351 Cleveland with a 4 speed wide ratio. Boy they were the good old days.

According to MBWpy's updated roadmap, the facelift will happen at the end of 2003.

the W203's were introduced in 2001, doesnt 2004 seem kinda early for a replacement with W204. i would agree with a facelift but an enitely new model all together, just doesnt fit MB's past, or most German autos for that matter.

The W203's were actually introduced in 2000 as 2001 models. It is easy to confuse introduction year and model year. Therefore, if it is thought to be 2004, my guess would be that it would be a 2005 model. Still, a very short life for the W203 by MB standards. I wonder if this story has gone through a couple of mouths and it is actually a 2005 intro of a 2006 model? That would be only a 5-year life for W203. I have a hard time believing that.

MBspy shows a new model W204 for 2007. That sounds about right because they are making new models more often than they used to. A six year run seems about right. So I would say a 2006-2007 W204. And they say the facelift is late this year, so that will be a 2004.

Any updates on proposed changes for MY 2004 W203?

Think it will affect the new sport sedans as well? Seems odd since they were just launched, but perhaps shared componentry will factor in??

As I'm probably going to have to order my '03 C230K Sedan, it's getting close enough to consider waiting, hmmm... decisions decisions.

Where's my crystal ball?

I can't see the 230K getting too many changes. For sure, there won't be an engine change. It wil likely pick up the "trim" changes that are part of the facelift. The biggest change I think it could see, the in dash 6 CD player from the E class instead of the glove box one. MB is way behind Lexus, Audi on this.

The biggest changes to the exterior will probably be slightly restyled bumpers - with a few new paint colors.

If the in-dash CD changer has different external dimensions, I bet it won't happen. They might go to the Audio 10 as standard equipment for the US; however, seeing as how the current changer is an easy extra few bucks for MBUSA, it won't surprise me if they don't have this.

Cheers, BT
