Start Up Car --> No Sound from.. Sound System?

So.. today's a regular day.
I go start up my car, and I hear nothing.

Nothing O.o

Weiird.

I plug in my iPhone into my FM transmitter, switch the channel to the one I have set.
And I get nothing. No Sound at all.

EDIT:
I forgot to mention, I have the stock Harmon/Kardon sound system. No upgrades what-so-ever. Thought this info might be useful in the diagnosis.

The Unit for movies is on. I switch from FM to AM to CD to everything possible. I eject the CD and put it back in.
No sound at all...
I press Mute, and Unmute it. Nothing.
What gives?

I turn off the car completely. Then turn it back on.
Music begins to play!

I tried searching, but I really don't know how to look up this issue O.o

This has only happened today as the first time, so I'd like to know if I might have missed something small.

Thanks in advance guys!

^ That sounds... scary.

I go out at night a lot, so if my doors just unlocked while I was stopped, and not doing anything I would've freaked the **** out.

Lol.
If I had just finished any one of the Final Destination movies. Damn.
Can't even imagine the state of paranoia I'd be in.

ya, I kind of freaked out. I think maybe a signal made it unlock or something happened to the car.

Watch this. This works. I have tried this at intersections and it worked maybe 3 times (out of 1000s). You need to have a high powered one for it to work better. But what sucks is The cameras that record streets some of them can see infrared. I have blueprints which you can create a high powered one.

By the way people say this is BS but it has worked for me. Very minimal but it has.

I dont know if I can post the instructions on how to make it since it is illegal but its called a "MIRT" i'm sure people here have google skills.

But beware some places it is considered a felony to carry one.

Here is an "Educational Video"

The amplifier on the HK system is the likely culprit. It is located in the trunk. Have this addressed under warranty, if possible. The amplifier is OBSCENELY expensive (about $1000).

The amplifier problem may be heat-related. Turn down the volume and turn off your stereo a minute or so before shutting down your engine. This will give the amp an opportunity to cool off.

Do you mean you have Audio20 or that you have the Harman/Kardan Logic7 premium system. Like does it say "harman/kardon" on your speakers?

Damn if it cost that much its time for aftermarket upgrade. you can get a top of the line amp and speakers and possibly 1 sub for that price.

I'm thinking he means he has the stock sound system, not the HK Logic7. We'll see when he chimes in.

Sorry about the confusing "Stock" harmon/kardon.

Yes. It says Harmon Kardon on the back driver side speaker.

This is a heat issue? I mean. I was parked in the shade, and the trunk generally stays cool. All I did was turn off the car, and turn it back on like... 10 seconds later.

It says it on the speaker grilles? It is my experience that cars with the Logic7 system have the words "harman/kardon" on the speaker grilles in both front doors (not sure about rear deck). If you do not have this, you have the stock system (perhaps also harman/kardon speakers but not the same thing as Logic7 premium). We need this absolutely clarified before you can get any idea on what it might cost to replace it.

On second thought, 2005 cars at least, there are no rear deck speakers in cars without the Logic7 system.

By rear deck I assume you're talking about the two speakers in the back of the car next to the rear sun shade right?
Because I have those on my 2006, and the right side (driver side) has the words Harmon Kardon.

I wish I could check my entire car's package and what it came with, but I don't have the paperwork and etc with me.

But I do know for sure I've never noticed Harmon Kardon letters on the front door speakers. I think that would look out of place, and I'd actually probably sweat them off.

Anyone ever notice, when you're wearing shorts, and resting your leg on the doors. It just so happens that your calf rests exactly at the mesh of the speakers? And when you move, it makes these weird... squishy sounds. Lol.

Turned on the car today. No problems.
I'm hoping it was one of those once in a blue moon computer false negatives quadroped-defecations.

This is confusing. I can't figure out why just one speaker grille would have the HK badge. Anyway, if you do have the Logic7, the amp is massively expensive like was already posted.

Edit:

See this thread: https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...io-system.html

He has the HK system, similar issue except his went out and stayed out. Had to replace part # 1698208089 - MSRP $1,210. Can be had on getmercedesparts.com for $907. Still that's an expensive repair.

Thanks LILBENZ,

Sounds like what I had. *Crosses thumbs that it was just a microprocessor ^uckup*
I still have warranty until next year, and my car only has ~18,000 miles.
So I think I might have to opt for that extended warranty in a few months

And I still have to go in for Service A, so I'll ask them about all my problems then.
Hopefully they won't screw me just because I'm a college kid driving a benz

If you have a good dealer they won't... if you have mine they absolutely will.

As for figuring out what your car has/doesn't have, the Mercedes-Benz club of Russia has a VIN decoder on their website.

http://old.mbclub.ru/mb/vin/?lng=eng

It's pretty cool... or disappointing depending on what you do or don't have. Check it out!

That service says my car is a California version, whatever that means. It has the delivery date correct of 1.25.05. Says I have an engine pre-heater.. whatever that is. It says a lot of stuff I don't understand. Cool.

OP: Glad to hear your warranty will be footing this bill.

Yeah, all the US cars are considered the "California version." I thought it was funny because, at least on mine, it said "California version, for California, United States and Canada," like it was listing California as a country independent from the US. And you have the engine pre-heater... I'm SO jealous. I really need that for the brutal winters here in Florida!

Definitely go for the extended warranty. I've heard it more than pays for itself. I'm trying to talk my parents into getting it for my car now... because I'm broke.

WTF is engine pre-heater anyway? Honestly I wouldn't bother with the extended warranty on an 07 C230. Mature chassis & solid, reliable engine.. most problems should be worked out. I don't even have the extended on my 05. It's been as reliable as my previous Hondas. (knocks on wood).

lilben... engine preheater is a water heater and circulation pump. in very cold countries some vehicles have this to heat the engine before start... reduces engine wear at cold starts.
as for no sound, i've found that the control module sometmes looses memory or the MOST componets don't wake up so the car then thins that part is not fitted to the vehicle. It will bring up a fault code: most ring differs from specified configuration.

I'm not really sure about the pre-heater thing either. It's just something they get the crazy people that live where it snows all year 'round to pay for. I'm still debating the extended warranty. I guess I just expect it to be like my CLK. I don't know why, the CLK was only the second year of the chassis and of the engine... the first V6 Mercedes made was great though! I still have time to figure it out though.

I don't think I have the Logic7 Sound System because with that website it only showed...

810 loudspeaker, sound package
sound package (bose)
819 CD changer - alpine - in trunk

Although it confuses me that there's a Harmon Kardon badge on the rear speaker mesh??

I mean.. No one sees it unless they happen to look at it from an angle from the rear passenger side, or me when I'm doing routine clean-up in the car. (I like it clean and black without any other kind of garbage in there, so I see the badge all the time)

You don't have Bose and that's for certain. 2004.5 was the last to have it. From 05 on it has been HK. So the sound package likely means the Logic7.

By "heat issue", I was really talking about the temperature of the amplifier, which may or may not be related to the temperature outside. And this is only a theory on the HK amps. I don't think anyone has come up with a definite answer.

As I stated before, this amplifier is very expensive, so you really want it fixed under warranty. If the dealer cannot reproduce the problem (likely), at least you will have a record of your complaint, in case it fails after the warranty expires.

Im no sound diagnostic expert, but i know one thing for sure. You definately have the HK, there is only ONE type you can get! This was very amusing to read since no on here had no idea how to determine if they had the sound upgrades!

LOL, lilbenz- no offense but you obviously dont have the sound upgrade so i dont know where your getting the idea of the HK badges being found on the front doors!!
They never had them on there from the beginning! I have Bose, the badge is on the rear deck speaker grill, so as the HK.
There is only ONE Harman Kardon system, which includes Logic7, thats what you have iJimpanzee. Dont get confused, its very simple, there is stock and there is HK, one or the other.
