10,000 miles before changing oil?
The computer starts counting down from 10,000 miles before service. Even though the computer will adjust the miles depend on driving condition and style. Still it seems a bit long before changing oil. My BMW computer usually gets me to service around every 7000-8000 miles.
do you still change the oil every 3000-5000 regardless?

I had the dealer change from factory blend to Mobil 1 at 1500 miles. Due for the next change at 5000, along with tire rotation and balance....then again at every 5k interval after that

I would believe the computer. No sense throwing money away changing the oil prematurely when its not necessary. Those that find comfort in changing it often have their mindset stuck in the past when engine internals were machined poorly and engines ran dirty polluting their lubrication systems quickly.

do not be a mindless drone.... why listen to the advanced engine maintenance and monitoring system.
instead listen to what the oil manufacturers, and oil lube places tell us to do, they have our best interests in mind
yea right, if best interest=sell me more oil

I agree that Synthetic oil should last 10,000 miles without breaking down.... The problem I have is with the TINY oil filters Mercedes uses. I don't personally feel comfortable with their ability to filter sufficiently over the 10,000 miles.

I guess Im' just 'old school', and view oil changes as a cheap insurance policy. Mobil 1 should last 5-7.5k miles, according to their 'normal use chart'.
I mean, let's face it....if MB says the intervals should be 10k miles, it can't do any harm(and might do a lot of good) to cut their number in half.

I feel confident that there is a direct relationship between the 10,000 mile (or more!) oil changes and the fact that _they_ pay for them, for the first 50,000 miles.
Although, I realize that they aren't the only ones... My friend has a 2001 325ci, and he says that it's every 15,000 miles. So, he gets three free oil changes, during the first 50,000 miles. That doesn't sound right.

I'll change it myself every 5,000, and let them change it every 10.
A few bucks every 5,000 miles is nothing, and it gives me an excuse to crawl under the car.
But I (not a bank or leasing company) own my car plan on keeping my car 15 years.
If, like most people, I were leasing or otherwise planning on keeping the car for 3-5 years, I would probably just go ahead with the factory oil change intervals.

From my personal experience I did change my Oil at 5,000 miles on my C240. The dealer did not reset my computer when I did this so I could get another oil change at the recommended 10,000 miles but within that day while I was driving my computer changed the scheduled service interval. It now read 9000 miles even after they did not reset the computer so now I have to agree that there is a sensor that does check the condition of the oil in our engines thus if we just follow whatever the computer tells us it should be fine. Also, I couldnt imagine doing the oil change myself since there is no dipstick.
