AUS$1400 seems expensive compare to what Tariq got for US$350
, I'll ask him anyway. What is the usuall mileage for the break to start wear out?? I have 42000 km, which i'm not sure in mile.

How about an update?
Driving impressions now they've been on the car a while?
In the pics, you hadn't even driven the car yet...still have the coating on the rotors.

I went through this with the naysayers at CCoupe.com:
Every car maker that produces a high performance car puts better brakes and better tires on them, Please tell me they are just wasting their money. They typically put larger pads and more pistons to spread the load , as well as larger rotors. Jaguar even puts crossdrilled rotors on their supercharged cars. Mercedes, Porsche even have cermaic rotors like formula 1 race cars. At $8,000 option you are saying this is for show?
Are you saying all these car makers are wrong and you are right? I guess you are the only one with that opinion.
And please don't go into the argument that these brake upgrades are for fade resistance. They are for primarily one reason, shorter panic stops.
I have about the same tires as a C32, I change the brake fluid every year, and the brake lines are new.
I figure the following, the stock C230 Coupe stops from 60 in 126 feet. The stock C32 in 116 feet. My coupe that weighs about 400 pounds less than the C32, with better pads should stop in about 108 to 110 feet from the same distance.
That is well over a car length and can easily be the distance between a crash and several thousands of dollars, and a close call. I consider the $549 parts and additional labor to be well worth the price, as there is always some stupid person who stops in a panic in front of me. I can out brake almost any car on the road now.
The first thing people will say is about the tires being the most important. None of us who put the AMG brakes on will ever be using Michelon Symetry tires, ever use them? The have a tread wear guaranteed for 80,000 miles
Like driving on marbles, the tread is so hard. They were on my Lincoln Mark VIII. I put some great Z rated tires on, could go into freeway on ramps 15 mph faster
Bottom line the AMG brakes also provide world class stopping ability, not just fade resistance. Yes you can get better braking in Porsche and Mercedes, but those carbon fiber rotors are $8,000 more.

I got upset when they said prove it:
You guys will never get it. Look in the back of every Car and Driver, Motor Trend, or Road and Track magazine. If as Scoot says "the stock brakes should be able to exert force to exceed the limitations of the friction between the tires and the road" then how come every car that has a "Hot Rod" version also has better brakes (and tires) and stops better in both the 60-0 and 80-0 distances. Some like Automibile mag uses 70-0 brake tests.
Please tell my why some cars stop in 137 feet from 60 and others in 110? In every case the brakes do NOT exceed the limitations of the friction between the tires and the road!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now listing only one stopping distance like Motor Trend is LAME, as the stopping distance from 80 almost doubles that of 60-0.
But lets look at BMW cars. The 330i and 330xi stop in 130 feet from 60, the hopped up -better braked M3 stops in 111 feet.
The stock Corvette stops in 115 feet, the Z06 in 104!!!
Mercedes CLK 320 in 126 feet, the AMG CLK 55 in 116.
Using Road and Track criteria, in 1999 the E55 got an excellant for 123 ft from 60 and 217 from 80, while the Jag XJR got a very good for 130/231.
The 2002 Road and Track test of the C230 Coupe using the 16 inch tires (Conti) all season stopped in 132/234 and got a very good rating.
Their Sept 01 test of the C32 stopped in 118/211 feet (17 in tires)
Their July 2002 test of the C320 Sport with 17 inch tires stopped in 123/218.
Assuming the C320 sedan with 16 inch tires would stop in about the same distance as the 300+ pound lighter Coupe with 16 inch tires, the tires alone are worth 9 feet at 60 and 16 at 80 mph.
The slightly heavier C32 with better brakes but the same 17 inch tires as the C320 Sport stops in an additional 5 feet from 60 and 7 feet from 80.
The total stopping distance changes were 14 from 60 and 23 from 80 mph. That is an entire car length, easily the distance between a wreck and an awe *****.
Now you fellows are free to continue to use the stock brakes and stock 16 inch all season tires.
I am very happy with the Z rated 17 inch tires that are rates Ultra Performance ( not all season) and with the AMG (Brembo) brakes.
To each his own, but it does all a dis-service to spread bad information or I should say disinformation.
Short of a full track braking set up, the figures posted by magazines do "PROVE IT
I wish I had the $2000 for your rims

Breaststroker,
It's not worth the time.... Some people concentrate too much on numbers and theory rather than reality. Forget the fact that they are larger, prettier, and come with neat little holes in the rotors... Go out and drive a C32! Then you will know firsthand how the C32 brakes feel.
Thanks,
Ben
