Parking brake binding - Lubricating the Parking Brake Cable
Hi everyone,
I am getting a problem where the LHS rear parking brake seems to be binding slightly. If I drive along and apply the foot brake then I can get it to release. I am thinking that I need to lubricate the juction point under the rear seat but wanted to know if WD40 would be suitable?
The binding is not bad but when I go around a right hand bend it seems to get worse. Pumping the parking brake always alleviates the symtoms.
the parking brake has never properly released and I always need to pull the lever back with my foor when I release it with the hand lever.
Does this sound more serious than a simple lube job?
thanks in advance.

I would think it could not hurt to lube the cable at that point, but a heavier lubricant would be better. Something like a heavier lithium based spray grease would be better. I think that WD-40 would be to light of a lubricant. I am pretty doubtful this would alleviate your problem but it is worth a try.
I would think a more detailed examination of the brake system would turn up the problem.
