I agree. Mine was replaced after 2nd set of pad at about 54k miles.

Frank, is this not it? This is what an SA showed me atleast.
those groves on the side? it could be, but I think that's just where they clamp onto the special tool MB uses at the dealership to measure thickness.

because the pads wear and creates a "lip" on the edge of the rotor. the thickness on the most outer edge is unchanged. the pads don't wear out all the way to the edge for that indicator to be of any use.

That makes sense. Here's what it says on the hub.

On the 04.5 Sport Rotors, 26mm is min.

This is the best I can do. I was able to take the other pictures with wheels on. You can't really see the other connector that plugs into the end.

Changed front pads last night... wow - prob one of the easiest jobs Ive ever done…what a simple set-up. Driver side (first side) took about 45 min, Passenger took about 20min. Pads were def shot.

Only additional tips I can give to the DIY on here is after you pop the wheel off, be sure to spray wd-40 on the bolts holding the caliper on and let sit for 5 min while you prep the pads with brake quiet… those mothers are on there good!! Im a strong guy and it took everything I have to break them loose.

After proper break-in period I will get back on and review the Disk-Italia pads…

Completed the fronts this morning. I did not have to remove the calipers since I bought a piston compressor that has plates wide enough to push in all 4 pistons on my "04.5" calipers at the same time. The passenger front took 45 min due to 1 new OEM pad that had a mishaped backing plate which prevented me from sliding in the pad. The driver side took less than 15 min and that included removing the wheel, remove/install pads incl spray down with brake cleaner, and torquing down the wheel. Definitely a DIY. Also, make sure your existing rotor has not exceeded the min wear as stamped on the rotor. I have 31.4k mostly street miles and still had 27 mm left. So, my next pad change must include replacing the rotors.

That is weird, the computer will lock up if I tried to "Manage Attachments" to upload a pic in IE8. I had to do this in Firefox.

By "caliper bolts" you don't mean the ones on the outside of the caliper you can see looking through the wheel, right? The two big ones? I don't think you're supposed to take those apart.

No, he meant the two bolts holding the caliper to the knuckle.

Seems my wear on the rotors was about equal - 28MM left from 80%, 29k highway miles... I too will change the rotors next time.

The preliminary verdict on the semi-metallic (Kevlar) Disk Italia Pads is – GREAT!

I washed the car Fri (after the Thursday night instillation) and already notice the decrease in dust. The stopping power is superior over OEM – petal seems to be much more responsive and increased grab requires much less pressure on the petal.

For less than $90 shipped (fronts only), I don’t think these pads can be beat for the non-aggressive daily driver.

ya those bolts on the caliper didnt give me any problem, but getting the rotor off was a bich!!!!! that lil start thing did not want to come out w/o boring out! i bored out the driver side front and had to hammer a hex head into it to make a new impression so I could unscrew it!
