Hi, i'm looking into buying a 1 (2002) year old car either benz or bmw, but bmw's look boaring. I came down to two cars either c230 coupe which I REALLY like but I don't like the back of it or c240 sedan which looks sweet overall. I'm 19, which would you recommend and why ?

Definitely a C230 sportscoupe for you with manual transmission.

You should test-drive both and you will definitely notice the difference in ride. I agree that the hatch takes some getting used to but it's very practical (can just throw my mountain bike back there) and the rear end starts to grow on you after a while...

Agree! If you are only 19 and looking for a fun car to drive around, definitely pick the C230 Coupe - well, unless you wanna take your parents and brother/sister with you then the C240 would be more practical :p

Just bite the bullet and buy the C230 sedan. I picked mine up finally yesterday morning. Man oh man I am loving it. I thought the 240 sedan was sweet looking but I am 24 and wanted a slightly more aggressive response from my vehicle. So I came back to mercedes benz when i saw the 230 sedan was out. btw.. i believe the sedan is 100 pounds less than the coupe. Anyway you decide, I think you will be happy with the vehicle good luck!

I got over having a two door because of some laziness in transporting and driving a lot of my friends around in one. Although, because the C 230 is much faster and more responsive than the C 240, I would have chosen that one if it wasn't for my stupid conscience telling me all about practicality. That's my .02 for ya!

Since you are only 19. Get the COUPE! It's a great car for a young person without a care in the world. The car is powerful and handles great. The smooth looks of the 2dr coupe is just beautiful. I did not care for the back of the coupe when I first saw it, but it does grow on you. Whether is the coupe or sedan, I think you are so going to be in love with a Mercedes. Once you get a Mercedes, you will never go back

If you don't like the back of the coupe, get the sedan. Opinions will vary. You have to make the decision.

For me, I share the same opinion as you so I'd get the sedan.

I have a coupe. But, I think the sedan is better in size. my friends never go out with me cuz they don't want to squeese in the back. in fact I'm tall, so no one could sit behind me!

I'd say go for the bmw. you could get the 318CI or 318i for the same price with leather seats. Oh, talking about leather seats... the C- coupe is really boring from the inside.

and by the way... the those two mercedes models u mentioned are compressor.
take my word... you don't want compressor in ur car. it has a lot of problems and you'll have to take it to the dealer every once in a while!

That is completely untrue! Where do you get this stuff from? The 2.3L Kompressor engine is one of the best that Mercedes makes. It has been around for several years and has very few problems. The car may have problems, as all do, but that has nothing to do with the Kompressor engine. Few people here have had engine or supercharger problems.

stick with the coupe, or coupe with a stick.
the coupe will be more fun than the sedan, sportier look and peppier engine. the stick fun, and the clutch isnt heavy at all, so it isnt bothersome in traffic. the rear end gets some getting used to but the overall look of the car is sporty IMHO. the sedan is a great looking car, but for me 4 doors was 2 to many. both are great cars, but i think the coupe just has a sportier look.

I agreed with these guys, the Kompressor engine should not give you any problem. I have not had any problem with my Kompressor or have heard anyone that had problem with their Kompressor. And I think the inside of the Coupe looks great! I do think if you are really tall, the person that sit behind you may have little leg room I guess you can't have everything in life. Have fun and let us know which one you end up with:p

well, my car doesn't accelerate like any other car from similar model. Not even other cars like Peg 206. No one knows whats the problem!

comparing to a sunny? Maybe... comparing to other car from the same level? Don't think so. even the BMW 316ti looks much better from the inside.

I'm not THAT tall comparing with other people. I’m 180cm, and There is NO leg room at all!! maybe for a three years old its okay. but still dangerous.


Hmm… the coupe looks great from the out side. that’s why I bought it in first place. I loved the way it looks and I liked the idea of a glass sunroof. About the panoramic top, it would’ve been REALLY cool if it was on a bigger car. its probably more fun on the E class.

Think about it this way, what do you want? Teenagers car or adults car? dad wanted to buy me a Mercedes sedan, but I didn’t want it… it makes me older or something… I want something for my age, something crazy…
And this car when it was released for the first time it was sooooooo unique.

Heh, people used to look at me more than the guys in Ferrari. But not anymore of course. Maybe after the face lift?

bmw 325ci, 323ci, clk320, maybe some audi's 2.7T, bmw 540i

but benz's seem to be the best car out there after ferraries and

all those fast cars. I want something in $35-40k CAD (about 25-

30k USD) range for used...

Hi, I'm new to the board. I've been reading through the threads and they have helped me in my recent decision.

I just put money down today on a C230K sedan silver/ash. It just cleared customs and is on its way to the dealership.

I test drove the C240, C230K sedan auto and manual (and the A4 1.8T and 325i). The C230K sedan was a sweet ride. I opted for an auto trans because I am too lazy. I've owned two BMW's in the past (528 and 328) so we'll see how this one pans out for me.


I'll report back after I get the car in a few days.

LOL... okay.. you have to make up ur mind... there is something that stops u... 325ci or 323ci?! LOL, how can they be options?! If you have a budget then you should look at it and see what suits it. why put 323ci in the options that u have if you already have money for a car better than it? which is 325ci?! :s


Ummmm... NO!! Ferrari is a car that you drive once or twice a week. Not a car that you drive all the time. It wont take it. it will be a wreck!!!
thats why Porsche is so popular here. its a sports car, yet its made to be driven day and night as any other car.

If you are so unhappy with your coupe then sell it! Get your dad to buy you something else. Since you talk about the BMW so much, then buy a BMW. Many of us are very happy with our coupe!

I think the MBUSA site in incorrect, probably someone made a mistake with the math.

According to the main Mercedes web-site, mercedes-benz.com, a C200K sedan (1475 kg) weighs 5 kg more than the C200K coupe (1470 kg). I had to use C200K weights as they don't have a weight for the C230K sedan listed on there yet. That site lists the weight of a C230K coupe as 1475, which is 5 kg more than the C200K coupe. I can't imagine that the C230K sedan would weigh 85 pounds less than the C200K sedan. Therefore, using the same difference that exists between the C200K and C230K coupes, I figure that the C230K sedan probably weighs 5 kg more than the C200K sedan, or 1480 kg.

Calculating back to pounds yields the following weights:
C230 sedan = 1480 kg ~ 3263 lbs (MBUSA has 3185 lbs)
C230 coupe = 1475 kg ~ 3252 lbs (MBUSA has 3250 lbs, so these numbers match)

This means that the cars are essentially the same weight, the sedan is just a little heavier (by eleven pounds). Which makes sense - since the sedan is a foot longer it has a little more sheet metal (the weight of the hatch probably offsets the weight of the two extra doors).

I’m satisfied with my coupe.
But I hate it when people say things that are not true.

Someone here said it looks great form the inside! Give me a brake… great?! Whats so great in it?!
First, the aluminum thing is only in the center, you don’t see it anywhere else in the car. and the leather sucks, especially the one on the doors.

Compare it with the bmw, the 316ti… the bmw has aluminum in the center just like this coupe, plus on the dashboard (hood or what ever u call it) like any other car of their. And on the door handles.
Also… here the car comes in leather as an option or the half leather seats as standard.

Again… I like my Mercedes… but, Mercedes is giving away a lot of options for the sake of price. Heh, I guess they didn’t do a good job since the BMW 316ti is in the same price too.

Which one looks cool? I think the Mercedes. That’s why I got it. but that does mean its great from the inside.

And about selling my car.. I would sell it… yes, I really want to… would you buy it from me for 27,741.80 USD???!!

Those are your opinions. Please keep them to youself. Most of us here like our coupes, including the interior. If you don't think so, fine, go get a BMW.

I agree, i am very satisfied with the interior in my c230. I think the fit and finish is better than my CLK430, and a little more modern looking to. I dont think ANY BMW interior is special at all.
