...Interesting Night

Well, i wanted to start a new thread but decided to continue on here:

Story first goes off, I'm heading to Stockton, Cali (the city most known for its crime and foreclosures in the entire country) to head over to a club and cafe on its Miracle Mile road. As i on my way, there was a big pick up truck beside me, lift kit, exhaust, the real deal. He definately asked for it, and i was like, c'mon, this isnt worth my gas. Light turns green, he hits it and accelerated at his pace, just to tease him, then give it the WOT, and im off flying away. Not surprsing. I get to the club around 11 and parked right in front of me was a brand spanking new silver CLK63 AMG Black Series! (i was like, WTF?! why in Stockton?! thats the last place i expected to see one of the BS in reality!!!). Sure looks way better in person with the upclose lighting and all. Had my share of fun and it was time to bounce. Late night, no traffic, nice cool weather, and whadaya know, a 06 C230 does a 'ricer' fly by, doing like 60 in a 35. So i go catch up to him. we both slow down to a 20mph roll with a long stretch road ahead (keep in mind this had the n/a v6, i pretty much know the outcome of this LOL) were both on auto, in top gear, 3 beeps later im walking off as if he was standing still. By the time i hit 90 i was at least 5 cars ahead. Since i wanted to play around a lil more and he still didnt learn his lesson, we came to a red light. He revs and does the power braking, blah, blah, blah. Im waiting on the green to humiliate this guy again . Not to my surprise, i jump off the line first and lead him by 1 car, after 2nd gear hits, i start walking away again LOL, his headlights get smaller and smaller as the distance increases! He was thinking because of his newer facelift look and louder sounding sport stock exhuast that he get away with it, haha. I flash my blinkers, he waves his wipers and goes off his own way. Now on a track, with its larger brakes, sport suspension and stickier rubber, it would be a pretty close match.
No offense to the 2.3 v6 owners, it really likes to rev and doesnt ask me to stop at the pump ever so often. Just another reason why i adore the much respected 3.2 m112. If this eight year old v6 is this 'good', i cant help but imagine what the AMG division engine line up has to offer.

[I seriously wish i brought my camera with me last night to capture all this!!!!]

It was an interesting night last night indeed..

Sounds fun... I enjoy just playing around with people, regardless of who's winning... as long as no one's acting like an ***. The m112 had SOOOOO much more low end power! I think it's a better engine, hands down, to the 2.3L m272, and the 5 speed auto feels much more connected than the 7. But the 2.3 sounds so much better than my 3.2 did, so I'm still happy.

The 2.3 is also a much smoother engine IMO... feels much more refined to drive.

lol, yeah it was sure fun, not expecting ANY of that along the way. I barely get a chance to go out for the night, so when i do, i take advantage of it. =)

Yes, i will admit the 2.3 V6 is VERY smooth, has great tunes coming from the exhaust. I got a chance to test one the other day actually.
Funny thing is feels almost like a C240. A good friend of mine (xMaximus) let me drive one, it sound nice and is smooooth and it likes to rev, very very similar to the feeling of the 2.3 V6

Im curious Andrew, how much did you sell you CLK for?

See, I think the 240 engine feels very crude as well, and is not as smooth to me. I had a 2001 C240 a while ago. It also has much more lag than the 2.3, but I can see where similarities could be made. The biggest problem for me was driving the 2.6L 240 was the way it was geared. At highway speeds the car felt like it was sruggling to keep up. Made highway driving stressful!

I just realized that we have been referring to the C230 as a 2.3L V6. It's definitely a 2.5L m272 E25 engine. I wish Mercedes would just use the correct numbering like they used to!

I sold my CLK for $5,000. The lady was buying it for her son, and she kept telling me she has seen some in various places with half as many miles for 4,000, but that her son just fell in love with the car and she didn't want to deny him of it. The price probably was a little high with the mileage, and the paint was an aftermarket job (Maaco sucks bigtime), but we fudged the title transfer, so she payed almost no taxes on it.

oh, cool. $5k, not shabby at all.
I have yet to see a CLK for sale for $4k, none in my area at least.

I still remember before i bought my car, i was looking around; my very first choice was the clk430 or the e430. I ALMOST pulled the trigger on a 2000 clk430, there was no denying the power in it. but sadly i came to conclusions, the interior looked really outdated. The new w203 came out at the time and was not considering getting a v6 in Merc, let alone a I4, but the c320 was in a way like the clk430 in that it wasnt a base model. So here i am till this day with my c-class. Very happy with my choice

Before I got my C230, I was considering upgrading to a 2002 (I think) CLK430... silver with the sport blue tint windows for $15,000, but I could not justify spending money on a new car when mine was working fine. I only got my C because my grandfather passed away and it was given to me. The w208 CLKs are amazing, and feel more solid than any other Benz I've driven since. They also looked so much better than the w209s.

It's funny... I always said that the CLK would be a classic benz someday, and mine was a twin to the very first ones built. That will be even more true now that they are going back to the E coupe. I can easily see the w208s being a collected Benz someday!

oh i see, its your grandfather's car. Better keep it for a while then!

In some ways the w208 does look better than the w209 (my brother thinks the same). I wonder, is the CLK ever gonna come back? if not then yeah, its sure a collectors! (the CLK Black Series will be even more valuable!!!)

well yes.. BS FTMFW!!! I just think, and I know a lot of people feel the same, that the w209 looks more feminine. Both great cars though, and I don't know/think that they'll bring it back. The E coupe will be the same thing, but with a different name. Not like the old E coupes.

If it were that easy, the 2006 C230 wasn't trying. It takes a significant power advantage to pull away from someone "as if they were standing still" or to put 5 car-lengths on someone. Don't mean to rain on your parade here but I own a C230 and also a much more powerful 135i and it's just not that dramatic.

How did you know that you were both in auto, and that your 5AT and his 7G were in the same gear, anyway? This would all mean more if you didn't bash the C230 at every chance you got. There's a guy on here with a silver 2005 C320 Sport - can't remember his name - and he has the 6-speed manual and even he says the speed difference is not "huge".

I test drove all versions I could of the W203 before picking the one I did. I drove a C240, a 2004 C320, a 2006 C230. The only one I didn't drive was the C350 (but have since then). My conclusions were:

1. Pre-facelift feels like a different car, and not in a good way.
2. C240 is too slow.
3. 2005 C320 Sport cars were rare.
4. 2006+ cars were more expensive (at the time)
5. M112 3.2L is only slightly faster than M271 while fuel economy is significantly less.

As for the continuous "base model" reference you make when referring to the C230 - ALL C-class cars (save C32 and C55) are entry-level vehicles. And the facelifted models make all 01-04.5 cars look old regardless of their trim level.

Understood.

Like i said, i was just having a lil fun. The c230 driver wouldnt stop doing the 'ricer' fly by on me and kept reving on me at the lights. and trust me, it was safe enough to do so, with no traffic or anything like that. (I'm not here to get anyone hurt.) He asked for it and i just wanted to teach the guy a lesson.

Another thing is that you failed to read my story, and that i wasnt talking about the m271. It was a n/a v6 (didnt have the kompressor bagde but has the same wheels as yours.) According to mbusa, they hit 60 in about 8.5 seconds. I'd say thats a pretty good enough difference compared to the 3.2
I have nothing against c230 or c230k, just wanted to share i little story i encountered a few nights ago. I dont care about who has what and whatnot, it was simply driving pleasure and at the end of the day (or night) all that matters is i had fun!
