Turn Signal Switch Broken? 2004 C320

2004 C320 4Matic
When signalling right, the switch doesn't hold. I have to hold it throughout the turn. Signalling left is OK.
Do I need a new turn signal (combination) switch? If so, what exactly is it called and if possible a part number would be awesome.
I have WIS and have been looking at the proceedure. It doesn't seem too bad. Do I really have to disconnect the battery? I'd rather not, so I don't have to reset everything. Any pointers or suggestions?
Thanks!

Joe

I had the exact same problem with my 2003. Looks like they had a bad batch, as my SA said he had never seen this problem before.

Part # is 000-545-23-10 Switch
Labour 0.7h

You can probably do this without disconnecting the power to your car. I know for a fact (verified with my SA) that you can actually remove your steering wheel without disconnecting the battery. I have personally done it twice (for an unrelated reason) without taking any airbags to the face.

It should be pretty straightforward from there, as I saw some screws that I'm sure would let you remove everything else in the column. Can't help you there though as my clicker was replaced under warranty. Good luck.

Just wondering, what are the last 7 characters of your VIN?

I'm in exactly the same boat now, just waiting for the next scheduled service.

Thanks for the info - I'll probably try to do this one myself.

Speaking of this topic, has anyone tried to swap out to newer stalks? I like the post-facelift rounded-end (for her pleasure) stalks much better than the '02's almost-square ones. No idea if it would be a direct swap or not; my guess is that the housing would probably be different, but you never know.

I admit the rounded stalks are also much easier on one's *ahem* hands too. The square stalks are ONLY on MY2002 vehicles.

For the cruise control and other metal stalks, yes it's a direct swap out. The turn signal I'd be willing to bet is also completely identical, since it fits into the steering wheel column which didn't change AFAIK.

Easiest way to be honest is to find a buddy who drives an 03+, or swing by the dealer.

OK, I pulled the switch out (without any air bag incidents!). Not too bad of a job at all. Just needed #27T screwdriver and followed WIS instructions.
The number on the part is 000 545 23 10.
Searched the web for the part with a few results. When searching I also came up with a part number mentioned by another poster which was MBZ036008, but didn't want to chance getting the wrong part.
Found most reasonalble price from www.primepartssuperstore.com at $80.24 plus $9.95 ship. Most sites were over $100.
When I get the part, I will post the results.
Hope this helps anyone with the same problem.
Later...
Joe

OK, the part was a perfect match. Everything went together great. Now the only thing I have to deal with is resetting the SRS airbag malfunction code. I gues the system somehow knew I had temorarily disconnected the airbag. I'll search this site for a way to reset it. I can do it on my American cars with my scan tool.
Hope I don't have to drive all the way (one hour each way) to Mercedes and pay to have them reset it.

Sweet. I think I will attempt this DIY in the near future. I have a 2002 and I would love to 'upgrade' to the newer post-facelift switch. Can anybody verify whether the old switch and the new switch are interchangeable? Anybody have a friend in their local parts dept who can lay the two next to each other for comparison

OK, went to the dealer. They reset the SRS code, washed my car and the bill was $85. Not too bad. They quoted me $102 over the phone when I made the appointment. Everything seems OK with the car.

Give them you Vin last 7 numbers or the whole thing so that they can make sure to send you the correct part number. The site I use is oediscountparts. Tell Tracy Bas sent you and she may even send you a souvenir. shipping is free for less than 10 lb, if more than $50, which this switch would be.

Weird, I did my switch on 06 CLK and no SRS/ESP codes but now nothing on the switch works (e.g. high beams, wiper/washer/ turn signals). I'm really hoping it's something that can be fixed by a dealer/someone with SDS and I didn't botch anything... It all went so well, to well...

there are 2 different turn signals with the sleeker stalk. All have a different body design. The late 02 to early 05 are 5 pin whereas the 05 to 07 are 6 pin.
