Check Engine Light on '03 C230K. Error code P0366.
Hello folks, somebody recommended this forum to me. Our engine light has been coming on and off. Took it tonight to Autozone to have the codes read. I was hoping it was just the gas cap!! But sadly not. Error code P0366, Something about 'Exhaust camshaft position (CMP) sensor performance. Haven't seen too much of it on the web. Would anyone here know anything about this? Expensive fix? Thanks in advance!!

Search for "Leaking Cam Sensors" in the W203 section. You'll find more than you want to know.
The sensors on these engines are known to leak oil into the wiring harness. If you're lucky, you simply need to replace the sensor. If you're unlucky, you need to replace the ECU, O2 sensors, and wiring harness in addition to the cam sensors (around $2500 or so).
Hopefully, you've caught it in time.

Oy. Yes you need to search and find the thread that guides you on how to check for cam sensor leaks. Hopefully you've been warned early enough to avoid the costly fixes. Also, in your search, look for "pigtails" - these are adapter wires from Mercedes that are easy to install and prevent oil from leaking into places where it doesn't belong.

Thanks fellas. Did some reading on the forum last night. If it's a censor I can handle that. And yes hopefully we caught it on time, thing is we had it in for a routine service only a few weeks ago so fingers x'd if there were problems then surely they would of spotted it. Taking it to the dealer today to get looked at. HOPING they don't beat us around the bush like before. I'll let ye know how I get on so others with similar isues may know where to start looking.

Well herself took it in this morning, after 90 mins of waiting they had diagnosed the problem. The car is still there, will be till they can finish working on it Monday. She can't remember exactly what he told her but oil had been leaking all over the engine, said we were lucky the engine didn't freeze up on us. I'll have to wait to read the report Monday. Will set us back about $2,000 after taxes. We had the car routinely serviced a few weeks ago. Told her they couldn't possibly of seen the problem coming. Crazy. This car has just 58k for 6 years on the road, always been maintained. We were going to sell it soon. Still are. We've had other problems with the car in the past, had to buy new alternator, had a hose leak and a few other little things. I wouldn't buy a benz again. Poorly made IMO and I will fling off an email telling MB USA my thoughts. When you pay good money you expect a good car....and we didn't get one......
