Front Axel Boots

Front Axel Boots
2003 model year, 240C 4-Matic with 88,000 miles, went to dealer for Service A. The service advisor tells me that my front-axle boots are torn. He further says that they would change the entire front axels for a mere $2,900 and that changing the boots alone is not an option. What do you folks think? It is hefty sum. The car drives fine. I’d rather replace the boots, if possible.

Another website with both OEM boots for good measure:

Unless I'm missing something here and what they said is somehow true (which I SERIOUSLY doubt) please report this dealer to MBUSA, the BBB, etc.

If you are in a bind, and want to prevent any further grease loss...if you are in fact throwing grease...you can wrap them in RESCUE TAPE until you can replace the boot.
Typically the ends / crimp style of OEM clamps make this "hard" but you certainly can do it!
