temporary loss of power

i have experienced at least 5 times now a moment of no power when driving. usually on the highway, im accelerating and then its like no gas is given and i don't move, then a sudden jolt and it goes back to normal. can this be a fuel pump problem? i always use 94 octane, so is it possible there is some obstruction on the fuel injectors? any help please, im really pissed...i only have 40,000 kms.

I couldn't begin to tell you what's wrong but if you get a laptop and run one of those OBDII scanner programs you can log all the sensors as you drive and you may be able to localize it, at least be able to read any codes. The software/cable runs from about $120 to $200 depending on the software. At 40,000 kms in Canada, is you car out of warranty?

If you need a list of possible suspects, check the fuel filter, it can become clogged and have those symptons, check fuel pressure. Could be the ECU going bad or connections to it getting wet. Could be an electrical short (does the electricity go out when this happens?). Could be any number of sensors gone bad, after all it's a throtle by wire setup.

Good luck and keep us posted.

My car was in the shop for an engine stall at 60mph. Did your engine stall or just have no power?

no, it didn't stall. it just stopped responding for a second (the throttle) but resumed a second later. it is as if you cut the gas and then gave it back again. it happens once in a while but geez, what the hell is with MB's. can't i just drive a car that operates normally???

Non, monsieur.

C'est 80.000 km/4 ans, ou 160.000 km avec garantie "Signature" 7 ans chez nous.

I had a momentary loss of power accelerating out of a corner. A warning light came on for about a sec then disappeared and power was restored. It has not happened since. I assumed that it was a monetary glitche in the fuel line but like Buell says it could really be anything considering the complexity of the car. Do tell us your results if you take it into the dealer.

yeah, i'll tell the service manager when i go for my next service. the funny thing is that i didn't get any warning lights. felt like the gas just stopped pumping for a second and then started again. anyways, i'll keep you all posted. if anyone has any other suggestions or experiences, feel free. thanks.

I wonder if it has something to do with the anti-skid/traction control programs. Based on my recent experience in the snow, the car would not accelerate no matter how hard I pressed the gas pedel.

Could be a safty feature kicking in.

I have experienced the same issue. It’s only happened 5-7 times and only in the last 7k miles or so (total of 17k on the car). Always on the freeway at cruise, holding throttle steady at 80-85 mph. Then slightly tip-in to throttle to accelerate and nothing, like it’s getting no fuel. My reaction has always been get completely out of the throttle for a few seconds and then get back on it and it’s fine. It’s weird, the first few times I thought my foot maybe slipped off the accelerator or something but after a few more times I knew it was something else.

I haven’t taken it to the dealer because it would be sooo hard to duplicate it and no check engine light so no code in memory. I’m not familiar w/ MB diagnostic procedures/tools, but if they have a “recorder” of some sort they could install in your car for a while and if it occurs while your driving you could take “snapshot” of the data so the dealer could download and analyze it. By the way, mine is a 320, so it might be a component common to both engines???

I really don’t think it has anything to do w/ traction control. The post about accelerating out of a corner, yes, but not at freeway speeds, although I wish…

i know for sure its not a safety feature. the road has alwyas been dry when this occured and no esp/bas kicking in. can it have something to do with the spark plugs? maybe one or more are dead???

same thing happens to me .. prob. at least once every 2 days. i'll floor the car, and nothing will happen..and then a second later, it'll kick in again. i talked to the mb dealer about it, and they couldn't diagnose the problem.

Antonio and others, see the following thread I posted last week. https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...threadid=30958 It sounds like the same problem you describe, only I noticed it when shifting. Thoughts?
