Anyway, I'm not claiming to be an authority, just reporting on what I did. No, I didn't do the "play-doh" test. But I did buy an R-13 bolt and an R-14. The 13 seemed to move about in the cavity a bit, while the R-14 seemed right. Definitely the better fit on my wheels. We determined that there needed to be about 17mm of bolt extending into the hub. The 26mm shank gave me that length. And yes, they did give me at least six turns into the hubs.
I am surprise that with a 26mm shank you're still getting 17mm into the hub,... that's like around 8-9 full rotations.
Wow,... so everyone here who's putting SL (230) 18" Mercedes-Benz AMG multi-spoke "Style V" (aka "turbine") wheels on C-class (w203) are using R14 ball seats,... instead of the R13 ball seat I repeatedly stated you should be using

Mercedes generally doesn't disclose ball seat size (R12, R13 or R14) for its various class of cars. Making it more difficult for those who want to use wheels from other class and essentially need hybrid lug bolts. McGard is OEM wheel lock manufacturer to over 30 car manufacturer including Mercedes-Benz,... thus McGard have access to the exact dimension of Mercedes-Benz lug bolts for various Mercedes-Benz models.

Let's look for SL-class (R230) on the McGard site to find McGard wheel locks lug bolts.

http://wheellockkeys.com/mcgard/e-suche_fahrzeug.php
- select car manufacturer: Mercedes-Benz
- select car model: SL (230) with alloy wheels
Then,... like most places they don't tell you the Ball Seat size,... but you have McGard part number: 28018
![naughty](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/naughty.gif)
Another McGard site listing McGard part number with lug bolt dimension shows our McGard part number 28018 has the following dimensions: M14x1.5 thread, *** R13 ball seat ***, 26.7mm shank, 17mm hex
http://www.mcgard-europe.de/pdf/Mass...)%20150807.pdf
McGard (Mercedes-Benz wheel lock lug bolt OEM) says SL-Class (R230) should be using R13 ball seat and NOT R14.
![EEK!](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/eek.gif)
If you're wondering why I'm using McGard site in Europe, it's because McGard & Mercedes-Benz have a deal where McGard OEM Mercedes-Benz wheel locks but can not market or sell them in North America, only Mercedes-Benz stealership can sell them in North America. McGard is allowed to market and sell their OEM Mercedes-Benz wheel locks in Europe.
But hey,.... if R14 works for you better than R13

Hate to bring this thread back from a year ago, but I'm now looking at these wheels, and god are mercedes bolts a PITA.
Any conclusion here as to what the correct bolt size should be if NOT running spacers?

Barely a finger when it's on the tow should be too tight, when you lower the car it would be closer. It will not have any problems when you're driving straight.. But when you turn your inner lips or your tires may rub against your shocks, I recommend you getting a 4mm spacer with centre ring built in to avoid any rubbings and high speed vibrations.

I actually rub on the fender on the rear and my front tire got a bit cut on the front on a bad dip because I didnt have time to slow down but I am pretty low and my tires are wide. There should be no rubbing on stock suspension. I have pics in my other thread, I will start a new one with some new pics
